Default Are LQ9 heads any good?

I've got a 99 TA and fixing to put a sts turbo kit on. Just trying to find some info on heads and possibly cam on a budget. The reason for the budget is a stroker in the future, but anywayz. Are the lq9 heads any good, and I heard that a 02+ ls6 cam is good for a budget boost cam??? Any suggestions would be of great help.

more than a strict budget will safely allow..

on a small budget built correctly you will be looking at about 450-550 max, depending on the money..

the whole point of getting the lq9 heads is to drop the engine's CR to run boost more safely. they also flow a little better then the stock ls1 heads.

At 15 lbs it made 770rwhp.
At 20lbs it broke 800rwhp.

450-550 max is a friggin joke, We do that on the stock long block at 8lbs and pump gas.

I had good results with them. Probably could have made over 600rwhp if I didn't have a fuel issue. Im going to use them on my 402/ F1A build and see how they do. Numbers are in my sig.

some where around 9.5:1 depending on the head gasket. and i personally would not run anything over 10 psi on my short block. good luck

Budget doesnt change. Only the tune from Safe to Ready To Blow. Opinions very. This I know. If you want to tune your setup to be safe at 450-550rwhp that is totaly cool. I can safley make 550+rwhp. Its all in what you want.

well honestly.. thats just what i have seen..
i know you know a lot more about turbos than i do..
jason has told me you know how to put your **** together..

i would just think after 550 or so, then you would need injectors, fuel pump, etc.. and thats where the "strict budget" is starting to get stretched a little..

i dont know much at all about turbos.. i like N/A, and a little bottle..

You should be able to make 500 + pretty easy. I made just under 500whp in my 5.3 with 10 psi.

I just recently turned my boost up to 15psi and and so far so good.
I am running 317's that I ported a little with arp head bolts, 48lb injectors, 340l pump and pump gas with no meth and on a built 10 bolt. I am still running 10.0 afr and no knock to speak of. I dont plan on going any further on my stock 113k bottom end as I am pleased thus far. I am blowing through the convertor now that I raised the boost 5psi(4l80e).
Oh well time to upgrade.

Trying to test the limits of componets and proving it can be done with a relative cheap setup.

ive made good power with 317s but as far as boost goes i 12psi on a stock short block and its holding up well but its all in the tune
i think it would run better with less boost and a tune change (more timing and less fuel )
i say get 317s run 8-10psi with some meth and a good tuner you can make 600rwhp easy
my ride has made 694rwhp with 317s and ZO6 cam at 12psi but we turned it down after that LOL
hope this helps
