Tapping LS1 water pump heater hoses for plugs
ok guys, i've spent the last hour searching this site and can't find the info i need. I want to thread the heater ports on my water pump, does anybody know what size pipe taps i need? looks like maybe 3/8" and 1/2" but i wanna be sure before buying them.

That sounds about right, it's been a couple years since i've done it.
Once you get the steel nipples out of the pump, the holes are 5/8" and 3/4". those are a little bigger than the normal drill for a 3/8 and 1/2 NPT respectively. So you'll end up starting a little deeper on the taper of the tap, but there's more than enough meat on the pump to get a proper set of threads.

Super easy. I just did mine 3/8 & 1/2 NPT. Make sure you center it, start slow to where it catches and you are good. Occasionally pull it back out and check the depth of the plug you are using since NPT is tapered.

use some lube on the tap, go slow, back off the tap every half a turn or so. you will feel it get tight, back it off a turn keep going. +1 on not going to deep. just enough to sink all the threads of the plug, use some thread tape or liquid thread sealer.
