Default Raymer sets New Record

First pass off the trailer on 16 pounds of boost went 9.81@140.xx and that car had a lot more left in it. I will let Rob tell the rest of the story, but I wanted to post for him before he gets home. He tried a few other passes and even this pass he couldn't build boost at the line. He sat there for at least 5 second each pass trying to build boost, but the converter's too tight. Thunder will be very interesting.

We installed the new Chance converter last night and headed to the track. First pass, as already stated, we went:

r/t 5.081 How about that for spool-up?
60ft 1.499
330 4.141
1/8 6.327
mph 113.07
1000 8.216
1/4 9.814
mph 140.63

Max boost on that run, according to the log from the FAST system, was 16.2lbs (boost gauge only showed 15lbs). It was all downhill after that. The 4th fuel pump in a month started taking a crap on me. My fuel pressure had dropped by a little over 5lbs after the first run. By the 3rd run, it was idling at 28lbs (I was set at 43lbs when I got to the track). So I never even got to turn the boost up. The FAST system was throwing all of the fuel at it that it could, but still couldn't keep up by mid-track. Thank God for the FAST and WB O2...otherwise, I would have had no failsafe to save me from my lack of fuel.

Looks like I'll be changing to a Weldon pump (I've had 2 King Sumo's and 2 Aeromotive 1800HP pumps so far) and ordering a new stator for the converter this week. I just hope I can get it all lined out in time for Thunder. It's so hard to tune a 140+mph car on the street!

Before anyone asks...yes, this was still through our 2 1/2" log manifold, 2 1/4" crossover pipe, and a stock '02 Passenger side manifold. And my weight is still over 3900lbs...where it's been for the last two years. So much for it not being able to support the HP, huh? I calculated that it took right at 800rwhp to make that run.

Also, thanks to Brian at TEA for the killer set of TEA/Judson Series 6.0 Heads. All that power and absolutely no head gasket issues! As I said before, we've seen as much as 26lbs of boost so far, and no head lifting! And that's still with stock diameter ARP head studs.

*I do have video of this pass, and will post it to our website sometime this weekend.

Sorry Mike....I couldn't leave you ahead of me very long. I'm just glad you got to feel what it's like.

BTW, car and/or engine & turbo combination is still for sale....

Imagine what it would do in a 3000-3200lb car!

Congratulations Rob!

And its about time you decided to get a Weldon pump. I read that your pump failed AGAIN and I was thinking, "Why doesnt he buy a Weldon already??" and saw it after that. LOL

Either way, good job!

See ya in LA!

Easy...they warranteed both King Sumo's...gave up and replaced them with Aeromotives. So I wasn't out any money. Time to try for a refund, huh?

Congrats on the pass. Ever think of trying a belt drive aeromotive? They are very durable in high HP forced induction engine's. The Weldon 2015 will also work well, but it is very noisy! I would like to check out your ride at thunder, what class will you be in and what color is car?

So, using the poor man's dyno that run looks to be 847hp at 3900#'s, with a trap speed of 140.63mph.
Congratulations Mr. Raymer
Maybe someday if I have money I would like to try that kit on my truck.

PSJ...at 3900lbs...I don't think Rob has done ANY weight reduction. So far the "hog with a log" is kickin ***!!!! Great job Rob. Gotta feel good to know you have more in it. So the FAST adjusts the a/f on the fly...even at WOT?

The "Hog with a Log"...I like that! Can I use it on my website?

Yes, the FAST is always adjusting to maintain my target A/F. That's what's so sweet about it. I have my Target A/F set at 11.2 at WOT. The FAST system can change the set of A/F tables that were input by me, by as much as +-25% in an attempt to make the WB O2 actual A/F match the Target A/F.

This is also how I know the fuel pump starting failing. I log each run at the track on the FAST and play it back. On my first run, everything was perfect. My A/F was between 10.8 and 11.2 all the way down the track, injector duty cycle was a pretty steady 90%, and the FAST correction ranged from +-2%. Can't really ask for much better.

Then, on my next run, my actual A/F after the 1/8 mile started dropping from 11.1 down to 12.8:1, the injectors were now at 120% Duty Cycle, and the FAST was maxed out at 25% O2 correction.
In other words, the FAST system was asking for all the fuel it could, but it wasn't there to give. Without the FAST, I probably would have blown it up, since A/F would have been around 14:1 instead. Talk about invaluable.

PSJ - The only weight reduction I have done is what ARE did 2 years ago while they had my car. Their K-member, and they removed my AC and condenser, thinking it was why the new engine they built was running hot (which it wasn't). I did remove the rear seats, since they don't match my Corbeau's. And I also removed the front bumper support....but replaced it with a 37lb intercooler. I still have a full size battery up front, heater, stock waterpump, Monsoon stereo with all speakers and CD changer, etc., etc.

Kurt - We talked at the N vs S Shootout. You may not remember. I was there in my silver Viper GTS, and not in my Z. I have thought about changing to the belt driven pump too, but don't know anyone who has tried it. Hate to be the guy that's "testing" more stuff. What are you guys running on Ronnie's car?

Thanks!

of coures you can use" hog with a log!" Man the FAST sounds like just the thing. Rob what do you attribute to ending your head lifting issues? What do you notice different in performance between the t-74 and 88? Sux about the fuel pump/s.....hopefully you can get back before you sell the whole shebang.
