Default something for the up and comers

Just wanted to show some of the folks just getting into FI how tires/tune can really affect things.

My car has run 9.59 a couple of times on slicks...9.85 on DRs. Yesterday I went on street tires...real street tires. Only ran an 11.3 and as slow as 12.4. Not only was traction a problem but I didnt realize at the time that my converter was locking in 2/3 gears and pulling rpms down to cells where I was tuned overly rich.
Basically I know how some of the new guys feel when they see some of the cars here run what they do. Here is an example of a car that has run 9.59-12.4.....tires/tune and getting the bugs worked out can definitely make that much difference

Great example Jerry. I've seen alot of 'complaint' threads lately. People throw on the same turbo kit as Joe racer and run 2 seconds slower and can't figure out why. Getting the right combo working together means everything.

yea, but if you throw on some drag radials on your 10bolt rear, you might as well call a tow truck with you when you go up top the track

Great post Cable! It takes more than HP to get down the track fast. I was guilty of this most common mistake when I started out. I had a $14K budget (including the $4500 that I paid for the car) and used all of it in the engine compartment. Then came the frustration. Atleast another $8K later, I got the supporting mods all worked out. I couldn't get into the tens to save my life NA (on DR's) with a 500 rwhp car. Supporting mods were good for a full second with the same exact power.

My new turbo used junk setup that I am currently running because money is tight (but I still have all the supporting mods) has netted me many 10.0X-10.1X @ 128-132 MPH passes for under $5K.

actually a 10bolt on an a4 car is pretty good....went 9.98s with mine twice. I would pop posis if i got wheel hop during the burnout but never on launch or going down the track...of course this was footbraking...no tbrake

I just wanted new people to see how preparation/tires/etc can widely vary the ets for the same car. If people have the same combo as you but are going faster, then generally, they are working harder to eliminate all mistakes and having everything in order when they hit the track. Sunday was a half assed attempt....wrong tires and tune and my results were equally half assed. That is how it works

just look at the mph to see if its making power if your running 12.4 at the same or close mph as someone in the 9's you should know the car has potential for lower et's

Great thread. To add to it - if you only go to the track once in a while at a club day or a TNT night, don't expect to run the same times as the guys that run their car every week and/or at events.
