kp...you're saying that you have basically stock timing 0 - 4500?
I've always been told that one was leaving alot on the table with a ProCharger by not adding alot more timing down low...we tried it after we got the forged motor in and actually picked up a good bit down low...

After probably 1000 passes, several dozen head gaskets, using everything from 93 pump to Q16 and three different engines I have a pretty good handle where to put the timing. Of course you can go higher, head gaskets and pistons are cheap..

Turbo car tends to create a lot of backpressure at high RPM, that backpressure is almost like EGR and cools/dilutes the intake charge preventing detonation (and reducing power of course). While its true there is less chance of detonation at higher rpm, dont ever think there isnt enough time for detonation on a forced induction car..
once again great info man. how much compression is you motor?

No, I'm saying at 4500 I run around stock, 25* degrees or so, and thats around 5-6psi, lower than that I run more naturally. My car never sees below 4500rpm (except when its on the 2 step) during a pass and I'm not talking driveabilty tuning. Any high stalled auto isnt going to see under 4500 rpm at full throttle anyhow when you floor it so its kinda moot.

Depends a lot on your compression and camshaft, if you lower the compression and put a larger cam in you can pck up some bottom end by adding more than stock timing.

Actually this is a pretty old thread, been 5.80/121 recently on 275 drag radials.

Not sure why this thread got brought back up..

I'd love to go to SDR but 330 miles each way is a haul, I've been there a few times and like the track but its a long haul.
