Just weighing my options, Damn it sucks to be cheap

Again Chevy chads specs are good, I just feel the factory idler is not wide enough. If you have a procharger then this mod is a must unless you have aster's or sdce tensioner. I wanted to do asters but the price didnt sit well with me
I wouldn't have the lip machined off. The coating on the pulley is designed to increase the surface life. The bare aluminum section would ware out very fast. Trust me, I have tried this and it wore out fast!

Just to set the record straight, the stock fbody idler is Gates part# 38041 and here are the specs for it:

ID: 17mm
OD: 76mm
width: 30.5mm

The 89007 pulley you're about to run out and get has these specs:

ID: 17mm
OD: 76mm
Width: 31mm

I highly suspect you will be disappointed when you get it home and you find out that you just wasted money on 0.5mm. That is the same thickness as the small mechanical pencil lead..

And FYI, gates specs on their belts say they are 28mm wide. So dont sit there and tell me that the stock idler wont work when I have proven it will. You need to line it up correctly, which apparently is a struggle for you because you cant follow simple directions. I've spelled out in this thread exactly how to do this mod. Why you did it differently is beyond me. Why you were surprised at your results baffles me as well.

Well maybe I got a smaller idler by mistake, I ordered from napa online.
Here is what I came up with today, now I want to take back apart and put washers on bracket side. pics were taken laying on my back in the street with a small jack(2ftoff the ground) I cant fully extend my arms under car so the angles in the pics look weird

Chad,

You gave me a part# earlier for a pulley of 36220...but I see you listed 38041 later on. I just wanted to make sure, but I believe the 38041 is what is needed for an 8 rib.

36220 maybe can be used with a six rib setup? Not sure...any way as always thanks for this awesome thread.

Well I'll be damned, I guess there are 2 different sized idlers. My mistake, sorry for the confusion I caused anyone. The one I have is most definitely the wider one. I guess pdasterly had the smaller one. I would not have thought there were 2 different ones that are that different in width. I wonder why that is.. hmm weird, glad we got this all out in the light. And glad pdasterly got his setup working.

Apparently, there are 2 different ones as found out by pdasterly on pages 12-13 of this thread. My apologies for the confusion.
No problem, spend the extra cash you saved and get another procharger idler for the most cleanest and technically correct install, I used part number 231107(autozone$17)(dayco 89007). Belt will be really hard to get on due to the extra wrap. I basically search for diameter of 76mm width 31mm
My handwriting is bad, someone please come up with a new procharger inlet hat

Okay this is to clear up the confusion. Dayco lists 1st design and 2nd design in their catalog. The 1st design is what you need #89007 (31mm) or #89059 (28mm) which is Gates #38006. The Dayco 2nd design is #89159 which is the Gates #38041 is wrong its only 26mm wide.

Now I'm confused, because the Gates website says that the 38041 is 30.5mm wide..

Their website also shows that 38006 is 30.5mm as well..

Also, the 38006 shows its about half the weight of the 38041 for some reason.. They both have the same dimensions, and they are both made of steel.

Just went thru the Gates website, and found all these candidates that would probably work:

P/N----OD----Width
36091...74.....39.25
36092...74.....46.25
36095...74.....33.0
36165...74.....57.0
36173...70.....33.0
36174...70.....33.0
36201...76.....38.0
36269...74.....42.7

(All are 17mm ID)

Aster - Where did you get the 1.75" OD pullies?
Do you have any left over from your last group purchase along with the stand off?

I've read through this crap twice, and cant find the diameter of pdasterly's autozone 231107 or 89007 pulley.

Yeah, they're both 3". I cant find a 2.5" pulley for the life of me. Damn I dont want to pay 90 bucks for a Procharger idler.

Which standoff is the one that gets machined? Is it the short one or the long one?
