Default About to buy TT WS6 Need Tips

hi guys im new to this forum and just wanted to say hello. I was wondering if you can give me tips on what to watch out for. I spotted a Black Formula Ws6 here in the bay area. Its a stock (28,000 mile) shortblock,M6, with a Incon TT. The problem is its priced really low (low Teens) so alot of people have been telling me to beware. Any know if the user post here his name is Nelson. Any advice i should heed? Thanx guys all info is greatly appreciated- Hector

Maybe you could take a look at it in person, and talk to the owner..

I think its better if you atleast contact the owner over the phone, if youre seriously concidering the purchase..

Good luck..

WS6's are fast..

I cant even imagine a TT LS1..

I did look at it in person and its sweet. its very well maintained. Its sounds killer and feels strong. I forgot to mention this was one of those places were the owners sell their vehicles (consignment dealership?). I just dont want to buy it and have it grenade on me.

You could always have the motor leaked down.

I'd leak it down,
check for major blowby,
bring a jack and take a look,
at the underside of the car.

I'd want a total list of,
what the car is supposed to have.

I'd buy it, but not if it takes all cash reserves from your wallet. With a TT LS1 you must keep cash on hand for potential repairs.

Well my father is going to help me out with the WS6 through his credit union. Im actually trying to sell the project 1968 camaro to free up some funds. Other than that i have about 3k on the savings account. If i do get it i plan to baby it until i can afford repairs etc.

The big question when it comes to buying the complete car here is the condition of the engine. When these kits came out, there was no such thing as LS1 edit. A great tune with bigger injectors was not really possible.

If the guy kept boost around 5 psi, and if he monitored his fuel pressure closely (those initial Incon regulators were suspect), and if he always used 93 octane, then with the stock tune and injectors, he should be OK on cars with 28lb injectors. Probably 4 psi on 26lb ones. That's a lot of ifs.

If it has bigger injectors now, all bets are off. You could never tell if someone made a major edit mistake or translator mistake or whatever, and has since corrected it.

The leakdown is a great idea, but I don't know if it could detect a weakened piston/ring system.

You are much better off buying the bare kit, and a car that never had FI.

For the price your paying even if the motor was bad it might still be worth it. If the car itself and drivetrain are in excellent condition You can get a forged shortblock for about $3000 so add that to the top of what ever he is asking for the car, say for instance if he`s asking $13000 if you have to replace the engine that`ll be $16000 not a bad price for a low milage ws6 IMO.

Good point.

I don't think edit was out in 2000. It might have been out, but not in widespread use. And if it was, who's to say it was done right the first time anyway.

I don't recognise his real name. What was the guy's screen name, both here and on LS1.com?
