Someone tell me this is a bad idea...
This isnt really FI related although it involves an turboed truck. There is a local guy selling a GMC Syclone(AWD, Turbo, pretty rare). Currently I have a 2000 blazer thats RWD as my daily, it runs beautifully and all but I want something 4x4. Originally my plan was to pick up my parents 2001 s10 crew cab after they buy something else but with the Syclone in the picture I dont know anymore. Its got 130k miles on the chassis, motor and tranny were rebuilt 7k ago and looks clean(no rust)while my parents truck has only 45k on it and has been meticulously maintained. They are asking 6500 for the Syclone. I havent negotiated a price with the crew cab but probably 5-6k. Its hard to say no because mini trucks were my first love lol I need someone to tell me the syclone is a bad idea!!

It sounds like since you're replacing your DD....the vehicle that replaces your current one will also be a DD, and will be involved in rain, snow, etc...
I wouldn't put a nice Syclone through something like that. If I had a Syclone, it'd be garaged and kept clean all the time, and would be stored between November-March....like my Camaro!
I'd go for the crew cab. Makes the most logical sense to me. Plus, it's got low miles, so you can drive it all you want, in any weather you want.

He lives on an island a little south of here that gets ran 300 days out of the year, and they have no IM there unlike here in Anchorage. I just found out it has some mods, and has no cat either. I think Im gonna have to hold off on this until I can afford another summer car lol

Do It the only down side I see is its a syclone and not typhoon. Syclones are two seaters so not the most practical. I had a typhoon for a short while, I want another for a daily driver. I don't care that they are semi rare, It was meant to be driven not collect dust

1) It was meant to be driven!
2) Preserve it for value and prestige!
That all comes down to personal preference....and how much money you have to buy another DD, and how much garage space you have

For as "rare" as syclones and typhoons are, there is always one for sale. I say don't do it unless it is extremely clean. Then go for it. I daily drove mine for a year before my swap and now I still drive it everyday. I'm 6'5" and don't have any problems. I've taken it on a 6hr drive before too. So if it's hella clean I say go for it but don't just do it because there "rare".

If it won't IM in Anchorage, it's probably not worth it for what you want to use it for. You'd have to get seasonal tags for it, and that's worthless if you need a DD. Unless you know someone in the valley that you could use their address...I don't think the valley has IM...
