Default powerglide for a turbo car

I know this should be posted in the trans section but by it being a turbo car I have a important decision to make and i need help I have a powerglide denibear case with a 10 disk clutch, harden input shaft so far im building. I gonna have a pro tree trans brake I would like to know do I REALLY need a straight cut planitary gear set or can i get away with the helicoil set up. Note my car is a turbo car so it will not be leaving hard like a nos car or n/a car and im planning on running like mid to low 8's, I say about 1200 hp at the rear tires. I hope. My gear in the rear end is gonna be like a 3.50 gear.

Hey Lamont!!
My glide that I had in the TT Camaro had regular stock planetarys. Weighed 3600lbs with the same rear gear. Never had any problems with it. Not to say it wouldn't have problems, but I just raced once a month with mine.

I would go straight cut...the strength will be worth it in the long run...especially when you decide to add more and more down the road

get an extra wide band. that was the only thing that I've failed in mine (stock width band) to date other than a input shaft that had a heat treat issue.

Like fireball said, If you have the money for it then go ahead and upgrade, but if you do not, you will be able to get by without it for awhile. The PG is also easier to remove, so if you had to wait, it wouldn't be a big deal to R&R.

well i will pass on the straight cut for now, i want to get out this year and im cutting it close with the money. I can use the 800.00 on my rear end so mabe next year i can switch to the straight cut, It is very very easy to break down a powerglide, I did it twice so thanks guys

Kinda brining this back from the dead, but isnt an fbody a little heavy for a glide?
most stuff with glides are around 3k and under for weight.

Im taking out my M6 and was planning on going with a 400, but i do plan on seeing some street time.

what kinda gears are you guys running with a glide?

I know a ton of people running glide in f-bodys with no problem. Just get a good one. **** th400 go glide or th350. th350 will be faster then a th400 and glide will be faster then th350. One of my close friends car is 3300lbs and pulls 1.3 60's all day/night long and drives it on the street!
