Default Please give your opinion of a gt-88 on my build

370 lq4 8.5:1cr, 317's, 228/228 cam, py3400, 4l80e, 4" downpipe

the truck is 90% street driven but never really fast on the street. I am only concerned about going fast at the track. How well would this spool on my setup on a 2step at the track?

I have been looking for a good deal for a pt88 but haven't found one yet(looked for almost 2 months now). This turbo was brought up to me by another member. Let me know when you guys think. Thanks in advance.

8.5CR is going to be a dog on the street with that big of a turbo IMO. Not sure about the 2 step though.

Forgot it's a 1.08 hotside. Right now it has a tc78 on it and I drive it everyday without going into boost. It doesn't bother me being slow on the street since I don't race on the street ever. I need to find a new turbo asap though since the tc78 is going on another truck soon.

Are you using the 2 step and 8.5 CR on the current setup?

I couldn't tell you. I have the same tune on it now as I did before the forged motor and cam so I have been just putting it around.

I have this cr now so when I decide to get new heads I will have better options and bring the cr up to 9.5~

At the track, you should have no issues what-so-ever spooling that up. If you do...something in the tune/converters not right

It wont be SLOW on the street. Will just spool later and might not be as much "fun" to drive on the street as the track. The 88 isnt terrible. In my conversations with forced inductions the 88 spools about 400 RPMs later than lets say a 76GTS so its not terrible. With a stalled auto it should be fine on the street.

Do you plan on making 1200+hp for real? I would only go as large on the compressor wheel as necessary to make your actual desired hp. The 78 you have now is capable of 900hp at the flywheel.

It will drive just fine and yes you could hit it really hard with a 2 step.

I am upgrading now because the tc78 is going on another project. I'd rather go bigger now so I wount have to buy another turbo if I decide to turn it up later

I had a GT47-88 1.08 atop a 8:1 348 cid. My car spooled slow to me. If I was on the highway and nailed it in 3rd gear, it would not take off until the car got to about 5000 rpms. Now if I had my A3 in 2nd gear on the highyway and was holding the rpms to say 4500, and then got on it, it would take off pretty soon.

realize ProStockJohn also has 22 cubes less than you and is only 8:1 compression. That makes a big difference in spooling time. For a drag setup this turbo would be very efficient on your 370ci motor.

BTW- I want a ride in that Syclone Bring it by.... I'm in Concord.

I use a 3500 stall in my truck with a Precision 72mm turbo and 6.0 engine with 8-1 compression. It 60 foots 1.7 at 5500 pounds but has dipped into the 1.6's a few times. Runs 11.40's at best with the 3500 and a two step set at 2500. I bump into the second light at full throttle with the two step at 2500, it makes 12 pounds.
Right now for better MPG I run the stock GM converter, it will only go about 2000rpm on the foot brake, that is 5 psi. It might have done a touch better when the engine was new, it has 104,000 boosted miles on it now and sounds a bit like a diesel!
