Default Bypass Valve, how to save cash?

Help me out here. I need to learn more about this after searching a bazillion posts.

Going from a P1SC with twin 3.5" IC's to a D1 with 4" FMIC. I've got everything together for my build ..... but the BPV.

What is wrong with keeping the small black Procharger PBV instead of dropping serious $$$ for a "race" or "mondo" BPV? Does the small one not relieve enough pressure and damage the impeller? Has this actually ever happened to anyone here?

By the way, I'm not going to recirculate from the BPV. Vent to atmosphere unless too loud (then feed back to blower)

What is the least expensive route that won't cause damage?

So nobody ever damaged a blower with too small a BPV? Are the bigger BPV just a marketing ploy to get more money?

I'd really like to save $300 on this build, why haven't others?

That and issues after the throttle is closed (Drivability, Fuel, Etc)

Just run an additional small one. Done it numerous times. Find a used one and call it a day.

You've already stepped up to a D1 and ditched the twins for a FMIC, so why skimp on your BPV??? I would get a race open valve, sounds much better.

If the bypass is too small you will blow off pipes / possibly explode pipes.........The strain on blower probably isn't good either.

You dont need a BPV, they are there for sound only.

So you have your single Tial 50mm blow off valve on "the Renegade" for sound only?

This is going on my daily driver convertible. Put over 20K miles annual on it now. I'm trying to quiet it a down if possible. Open is off the table.

Serious or are you f'n with me? I was considering keeping the small procharger BPV and adding a BOV. Wouldn't a blow off valve act faster to purge any "surge" when the throttle is closed? Does a BPV take longer to react with signal line to manifold vacuum compared to a BOV?

Can BOV's be set to open at 3psi over max boost at WOT? This would protect things from going boom when the throttle slams shut at 7K RPM, right? Then at normal cruise, say 2-3K RPM, the BPV is open (BOV closed) and the throttle is seeing less pressure.

Whats a good BOV, and how do you adjust them?

How much boost are you trying to run?

If it is 10psi or less you should be fine with the Black Procharger Proflo Bypass

What makes a CSC bypass valve different from a turbo BOV?

I run the egay greddy RS valves on a few turbo setups i have done. They are worth the $15, they usually hold boost lol.

When the impellar touches down you'll think the $300 was a bargain.

Pay now or pay later.

You can really slow down the impeller with the back pressure from an insufficient BPV. I had a TiAL BOV in mine with a 6psi spring. It was half open at idle, and fluttered under part throttle, then obviously shut under boost. It worked perfect, and is half the price of a ProCharger BPV.

I would rather not save $300 and have blower operate like its supposed to but I'm sure there is always a way to cut costs if you are willing to put in the time / research

Doesn't a too small BPV cause compressor surge?
