Default Good supercharger for a good price

Ok, I'm starting to save up for a supercharger. I just want to get around 400-450 horsepower, not rwhp. I'm looking for a quality supercharger for a low price. I don't plan on going with an intercooler. I saw a powerdyne around 4k, that is the lowest I have seen. I heard that Powerdyne is not too bad. What would you guys suggest under my preferances?

powerdyne is a very nice beginner FI kit especially if $$$ is tight look around and you can prolly find a used kit for much less, the problems people have with the kit can easily be fixed, so dont let it steer ya away

hope this helps

i don't see the point in spending $4k on a powerdyne, when for $5k you can have an ATI-D1SC/Injectors/Fuel Pump.

I've heard both good and bad about powerdyne, but mainly bad...

If your just looking for 400-450hp it would be cheaper going H/C rather than a Powerdyne..
The powerdyne will get you to 380-400rwhp,but they are not the most reliable..An ATI kit can be had for under $5000 with everything except tuning and give more reliable hp.

tell me what is unreliable about the pd?

you can pick up used kits these days for $1500-$2000.

they are super easy to install and the only thing you really HAVE to re-engineer is the fan setup if you live in a warm climate and that's not that hard.

if your looking for 400ish rwhp from a bolt on mod it's a fine way to go.

now with that said, would I buy one new at full price. NO. I would save a little longer and spend the extra $ for the ati or vortech. would I buy a used one for 2k or less if my goals were 400ish rwhp. YUP.

With the developments in HC tech I would go that route. I had a powerdyne and it was a great little blower but we had to do a lot of R&D to get the thing to work

I made 435RWHP and 433RWTQ with the powerdyne on bone stock motor and went 11.4@124mph. I bought a seperate bosch inline pump and used a splash of racegas at the track. Even in 100 degree temps I ran consistent 11.80s@122mph (on pump gas too)

If I had my time back I wouldnt have bought the kit though. Too much screwing around. I would buy a non intercooled Vortech and do up a custom intake for it and buy a 3 core ATI cooler or just stay Cam only with boltons

Cheers,
Chris

I think alot of guys like Chris who were using the PD kits from the beginning can give you first hand info of some of the problems that were seen. There are some people that had very good luck with these units and then there are others that had alot of headaches. It's very rare that we sell a PD kit now.

There are some other 6# options available for just over $4000. ( I can't post which one, e-mail me for a price). This doesn't include an intercooler so it sounds like what your looking for. Or for just under $5000. you can be into a 5 or 7# ATI kit with injectors a fuel pump and custom programming. This system comes with dual intercoolers if you decide to go that route.

Hope this helps,
Tom

One other thing. With some of the tensioner problems the ATI's have seen plus the fact they do not use the stock fans I would have to vote Vortech 6# over the ATI setup.

Vortech's Tensioner setup is great, factory fans are in place, clean setup.

With a pulley change, and SMC Water/alky 500+RWHP is EASILY obtainable and reliable with the Vortech. I prefer air to air and would use a front mount but the water/alky works great too.
