Default What block are turbo users using?
What is a recommended block for reliability on boost? I'm thinking of going turbo next year and want to build from the ground up. What would everyone recommend and what is a reasonable goal, I was thinking close to or over 600rwhp would be my aim.

anything factory, iron or aluminum has been taken to double that power and more....

Id bet better than 75% of people do it because theyre dirt cheap compared to aluminum. The only person on here ive seen post about wrecking an aluminum block so far was I believe fireball, and that was at 1800hp. Not to say there isnt another person here who has done it, but its rare.

Extra weight on the nose helps to keep the front end down.

Really? I thought a stock ls1 could only take to around 500rwhp. My friend has a supercharged trans am and hes on his 3rd ls1, the blocks keep cracking it seems from to much boost, and he isnt making 500rwhp.

600rwhp is pretty excessive for a stock ls1. I'm sure it's been done before but no one would recomend it that's for sure. That being said you can make 600 with any block available on the market today. You can easily do that with the stock crank/block set up with some better pistons and rods and save yourself some cash.

cracking the block where? thats retarded. So technically your friend is retarded.
Dont let your friend or a nissan dealer work on your ride. Especially if your friend works at the nissan dealer.

Theres a few people that have pushed the 600whp stock block combo a few times. check the "stock bottom end reliability" sticky up top of the FI forum. BUT mid 500s is more than safe IMHO. Also #7 OEM piston ringlands crack with too much power and or improper tuning, thats about it. Which of course forged pistons eliminates this problem. These arent POS ford engines where the damn block splits in half if you make more than 370whp!

If you can handle the extra weight and iron block tends to distort less under boost.

LOL some one has a bad tunner ? Ive ran ***** loads of boost on stock blocks and havent crack one yet. i think the highest ive seen on a stock ls1 block was 1000RWHP and is didnt crack the liners

that's interesting, the only ls1 blocks i have seen fail are the ones that where re sleeved, and obviously it was not done properly

also the 4 bolt heads will lift before the block lets go, unless you oring it obviously
