What's the largest T4 turbo that would drop in where my TC76 is now?

Default What's the largest T4 turbo that would drop in where my TC76 is now?

Just tossing ideas around in my head. I made a front mount kit on my GTO and currently have a TC76 with a F1/.96 hot side. What would be some larger turbos that would be relatively close in physical size? Is there anything that would have a bigger hot side that would be worth while? Or maybe a different cold side cover? The 68mm turbine on my TC is just so small, great for spool but it's rough up top on a 370ci. PTE76 a worthwhile upgrade? Trapping 134-136 on the TC76 now with 4200lb race weight, would like to be in the 140s.

The Turbonetics turbos all use the same turbine. The compressor is what changes. So if you wanted to step it up to a T, GTM, or Super T, you could. If you have room around your current compressor housing. You could send it to Forced Inductions and get it upgraded also.

A PTE 76 gts would be a decent upgrade over the tc76. Several turbos in the 88-91mm range but they will require downpipe and cold side changes.

how do you like your front mounted kit vs the rear mounted kit? spool details?

Still thinking about this. PTE76 or 78 is top of my list at the moment. I'm having a hard time finding solid track/dyno numbers from them on a 370ci though. Looks like the turbine is 75mm compared to my 68mm in my current unit. Not sure if that'll be enough though. Thoughts? I'd like to be in the 140s in my 4200lb+ car.

My poor little TC is just about out of breath I think. Can't complain though, 136mph in a 4200lb+ pig and spools instantly haha.

If your tc goes 136 a 76-78 gts will get into the 140's. A billet 76 would probably go alittle further. It would be nice if you could get the PTE turbo with a larger exhaust a/r.

same boat as you trying to get more turbine than what i have now out of my tc78 on a 370

only thing that will be physically even in the same realm for size with a bigger turbine will be the GTS wheeled turbos or the Comp 80/79 with the 100 trim straight cut turbine

I am lazyand dont feel like having to change anything, so i am just sending my turbo to Comp and having them cut a 1.32 hotside to fit the tc78. and see the results of that

had been thinking of trying a clip on the current turbine but can't find enough info of it being done on larger turbos to take the plunge

and the BW T4 stuff is still HUGE compared to the TC

Yea man, that poor lil 68mm wheel just ain't big enough. This PTE7682 sounds very promising though, I just can't find hardly ANY info on it. 82mm turbine though, yes please! I'll let you know if I find much on it. Let me know how your new housing goes as well... I'm on a .96. I'll be interesting to see if going to a 1.32 on the 68mm wheel will make much of a difference. Let me know!

I wanna put an S475 in there so bad, but I think I'd have to lose my hood and front end to get it to fit, lol.

I don't have any pics but I can tell you I only have like 2" between the inlet and the end of the "radiator support". Directly in front of it I have a bit more room though. Depending which turbo I end up with over the winter, I need to come up with a solution for a filter. I might end up building a box around the cold side and making a panel filter setup. Or if I "modify" the rad support I might be able to find room for a 4" elbow. Don't want that restriction really though...

I do street drive it so I do wanna figure out something for a filter.
