700 to 750 rwhp corrected or uncorrected at 5x00 feet above sea level?

You can make 700 rwhp with an aluminum block ls1 pretty easily, with forged pistons and rods and a good set of heads and cam.

At those power levels, its not a big deal. Get whichever is easier on your wallet, or readily available. FWIW, VA speed has taken LS2 blocks to 1800hp.

Stock engine, you threw a rod before you cracked a piston?

Aluminum block will do just fine at the power level you want to be at, and it will keep the weight down. Bob

well so far its specutaion without taking anything apart yet... there was like a big "deiseling" sound then clunk clunk... and oil every where!! i am under the assumption so far that it threw a rod , it went into the block and all is history.
this just happened at 7am today (colorado time). last night i was driving it around kinda hard...heavy footed... came home parked it. it was running great. i fired it up this morning in my driveway..and as i came off my garage pad onto the street and them ...bam!.....sounds expensive....fuuuuk beans...

wow, that sucks. But this just gives you an excuse to build it up even better! Thats how i look at it. I'm spraying the **** out of my stock LS1 and pushing it to the limits untill she blows, then i'll have a reason to build something nasty.

Well that sucks. I would get a forged 347 or 364 slap a set of CNC'd heads on it and call it a day. Should easily get you in the 700s. I made 676 with my 347 and stock heads on 13psi

If your block is trashed then I would go to a 4.00 bore engine via Iron or LS2 etc.

You may have lost a head gasket last night. Sitting for a while it seeped into the cylinder. You went to start it this morning and bent a rod. The noise got more pronounced with RPM. That would be my guess to the situation although it is completely speculation.

There is no problem with aluminum blocks other than they are more expensive. Good luck with the rebuild.

http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...Car.php?car=54

Take a look at the above build using the alum block block and stock crank, that we did back at the old shop with a D-1SC ProCharger. This car spent a lot of time on a roadcourse, seeing more wide open throttle time then most cars do in a lifetime. Bob

Patriot Stage 11's work well for the power you're looking to make. Bob
