Default Any downside to tapping timing cover for oil return?

opinions? slinging oil all over timing chain???

would be easier to do vs pulling trans back to get oil pan out.

Why would you pull the trans back? You just drop the k member 2-3 inches to get the oil pan out.

There's nothing wrong with it at all.
You will want to mark the locations very carefully because a -10 drain (or two) likes to get in the way of the front accessories and belt.
I ran the tap almost all the way through on mine and then shortened the tip of the fitting so that it did not stick out too far.
If I had to do it over I would have used the pan to begin with, but every combo is different so do what lays out the nicest for your combo.
Minimize the bends involved and make sure you have the drain as low a possible.

Good Luck.

6 speed would be a pain to get the pan out. Pulling the k member would be easier.

those fittings are kind of restrictive. Plus look how high up that hose goes almost to the top top of the block without a scavenge pump should it not be as unrestricted as possible plus always lower than the turbo itself?

I dont think his question was with the setup but with the placement. I think most of us can agree that the setup is retarded.

I had a -10 with a stock pulley. It was tight but worked fine. You have to be sure to get the hole just right though. I think i still have the one that i tapped in the garage. Pm me if you want me to look and I will sell it for 35 shipped to you. It might even still have the fitting in it.
