Rossler w/brake and all upgrades, Yank SC3000, BMR crossmember, Speartech harness, Lokar dipstick tube, TCI flexplate, driveshaft front yoke, it was over $6000.

Mightymouse builder told me 2800-3000 for a 4l80e. built to handle 1000rwhp all day. no T-brake tho. alot of other places want $5000 for one. i'm not rich by any means but at that price i would just go to a th400...

i vote glide also. the final drive between the th400 and glide is the same so you wont rev any higher than you would with the th400. with the high gear turbo cars like (3.08-3.25) and a 28" tire it would be fine on the interstate. My car with a 28" tire,th400, and 3.70's only turns 3400rpm at 80mph

if youre paying 2400 for a th400 then youre getting raped. there are local builders around here that can do them bullitproof with a probrake for under 1000

glide would be nice if it was a drag car. 3400rpm i wanna be lower then that as i would drive mine alot on the highway.

whos your builder that will do a th400 for under $1000? cause that is cheap!

If you buy it without the transbrake, you'll wish you had gotten the tbrake. Save up and do it right the first time. It always works out cheaper this way. Get an FTI converter. Best bang for the buck, period.

The difference between a glide for a 3500+ Lb car at 1000 rwhp and a TH400 is price. A $1000 glide will not live long in that environment whereas a TH400 in that price range can last a very long time. It would cost about $2K to make the glide as strong. But I'd rather have the $2K glide if those were my 2 choices.

you speak the truth my friend. going auto takes all the skill out of drag racing and the fun from driving. To the op manual cars build boost just fine your setup just needs to be dialed in and sized right. IF my 2.3l dsm could build boost at 4 grand from a 20g mitsu crap turbo then with 5.7+liters you should be able to do amazing things. gl on your build though

Glide or th400 will have the same rpm on the highway. Th400 gear ratior is 2.48, 1.48, 1. A glide is 1.76, 1

So 3rd gear in a th400 is the same as 2nd gear in a glide. The only way you will get better rpm on the highway is with an overdrive, or by using the th400 like a glide. Using 1st, and 2nd at the track, and 3rd as the overdrive, but you would need a low gear in the rear end.

If the car has to be driven on the street alot, i would say 4l80e. But it will cost double what doing a th400 would cost. My trans built for 1400 whp or so was 1300 bucks, with a warranty.

Good luck bud.

Chris

you cant beat the OD and TC lock-up. i dont care if you have TH400 with 2.73 gear and a 28inch tall tire. the slip in the converter going down the road sucks. even my PY3600 unlocked kind of revs alot in 3rd gear driving around town. but lock it up in OD and its just like 5th in a M6 car.
And if you have a low CR engine like i do (8.7to1). it hated 6th gear alot you had to be moving faster than 85mph to use 6th. but in this state there are to many potholes to be on the look out for to use it anyway LOL
so if you want to go auto and you like to drive your car alot like i do, save the money or hunt around for a deal, they are out there. and just do a 4L80 and be done with it

and for the die hard M6 guys my car is WAY more of a handfull with a auto. than when it had a M6. it hits the tires way harder

1700$ rossler th400.......and re gear the car to use 3 rd like an od gear....Ie, run 2.41 to 2.75 gears. You can run 140 in second.......racing, using it like a glide with a low first gear. On the hiway, you run about 2600 rpm with 2.75's....in third.

Ive bought prob around 7 rossler trans.....never regretted it...all th400's with brakes or 4l80e's.......Carls 4l80e is hands down the best trans Ive ever used. And I ve used......100's.....The 4l80e is around 4000 or up....

I wouldn't mind a 4L80 with a rmvb, but the T400 is the best bang for buck imo

No, he is saying that with a really tall gear in the rear, the TH400 will be like a glide + OD.
