ROUND 4, LQ4 TC78 Front Mount GTO
After all the talk, and questions that i have been bugging people with, and the first round build that never got started and had to sell all my parts, and the nitrous, and the rearmount, i finally got to get started on my Front Mount TC78 with a 1.15 A/R hotside Build. Round 4?? i think now, lol.
Its been a real pain in the *** so far, no lies. I wanted to use the driver side, Not happening i now have to relocate the battery to the trunk, (needed done anyway, forced upgrade? ) and re-route a couple coolant lines, nothing i cant handle though.
I currently have a built 4l60 with a yank 3200 stall, and now a LQ4 with ARP 2000 rod bolts and Head bolts. Should live for a little while, atleast until my AES 390ci motor is built.
so, on with the pics. (sorry, my phone only has a 5.0 MP camera )
turbo
manifold on motor
driver side exit
bend down from driver manifold, PAIN IN ***! i hate pie cutting, oh, the pieces that made this, are the left overs from the pieces that were supposed to make it, lmao. i guess my thinking was way backward. lol
looking toward passenger side where turbo will be
a look at the driver side down turn
passenger side downturn that will go into the merge
basic idea of where the merge will be, i may not use this piece, i may make my own to save alot of space. its probably too tall this way.
Lots more to come, this was just today and a little last night.
Im still a bit nervous about the alternator on the lq4 as the upper bolt on the bracket that bolts to the block next to the motor mount is not the same size, so i will need to find that bolt from a junk yard or something. just doesnt make sense.
Thanks to Andy and Mark for the help thus far and to others that im sure will help at some point, lol Jay.

UPDATE!
Jason came over tonight and got down right busy, lol. immediately didnt waste anytime at all. Made some serious progress tonight, we ran out of real wire, and had to tack things up with the flux core, BLAH! ohwell, ill re-tack with new wire this week and finish weld everything, i may send it off to be tigged :-pimp: but everything will be wrapped to **** and coated anywayz, so no one will ever see it. lol
and on with the pics, :turbonaug sorry, my camera was not steady tonight!
jay wasnt to keen on my original pie cut bend, so he he made a more smooth transition.
and the money shot for jay
more progress to come, yes, i will have to get a different radiator, i have been looking for one for a long time that will fit under the core support, i would love that.
more to come later, busy guy ya know, lol

Well i decided to tackle my down pipe tonight, and was quite surprised with what i was able to do this time around, seems like after my attempts before then jay really helping me out the other day, i was able to get something else accomplished, im quite happy with it, turns out any kind of extended welding is not easy with a hood that doesnt dim the arc for ****!
jay you were def right about my hood, it sucks, i had it on max darkness, which is 13 i believe and it was hurting my eyes, so i decided to only tack stuff together until it gets finish welded.
heres some pics, im going to be installing an electric cut out on the downpipe so that i can meet the rules for having mufflers and still be able to run wide open for mega fun
more to come as things progress

Got a little bit going today, still working on it actually, But need to get opinions, I know the reference isnt ideal, i simply dont have the room this way.
It sucks doing this, then figuring about 20 ways i couldve made this better.
Question, as im not in the mood to search at the moment, i know ive seen Wastegates close to turbos, but is this TOO CLOSE??? let me know what you think, if it is, i dont really know what im going to do.
I already aboslutley cannot use the stock radiator, put it in there with the wastegate, wont happen, i have to get a double pass radiator with both inlet and outlet on the driver side.
anyway, on with the pic. and the new timing cover with new fitting in it.

It will be pure insanity, dont worry about it. People run T70s on these engines with decent results, the TC78 will be awesome. My S400 has a little turbine and smaller compressor and it works great.
EDIT:
Hellbents10 wrote this in the TC78 vs T76 thread:
"We are running a 1.15 on a 370 @850whp, its a TC78 though. BP is high still but better then the .96. I would not run it on anything in the 400ci range but 383 is acceptable for the most part. "

hey, thanks man, id love to take a look, was that a complete motor when your got it?? oh, i was reading one of your threads, i think E85 would be a great choice for ya.
im on it now, and have been for awhile, it just sucks seeing E85 the same price as gasoline.

Don't get me wrong, you can make great power on these TC units. It's just that the 68mm exhaust side is going to hurt us to some extent on the high end compared with some similarly sized cold side turbos that have a 10+mm larger hot side.
But like I said, it's going to be a monster down low. My car is an absolute blast to drive on the street. It boosts instantly for the most part.

oh its still a heavy pig, but seats are getting swaped and back seats come out for the track, nothing in the trunk except a tank, no brace, no carpet, no spare, notta. ive never weighed my car. so i cant tell you what it was when we started, but all this turbo stuff will add weight again, lol
not to mention the iron block
