Default which heards for 5.3 turbo

i can get a pair of 317s for $100 or should i just leave the 862s on. this is a low budget project just done know if they would help or not. i have read some that say to run them and some say stay with stock heads. so should i swap them or just leave them alone and use money for other things needed

if your heads are still on i would say leave them
it should be 9to1 comp with stock heads with 317s you would be about 8to1 comp and unless you plan on more then 16psi then its not going to benefit you

862s is 9.5:1

317s is 8.7:1

just FYI

If you want to run 10+ psi, Id run the 317s. You'll pick up power as they flow more too

Use the $ somewhere else. Stock scr is 9.4:1 as is.
If u pull heads. The 317s will need a slight mill for a flat surface. New head gaskets and if possible use of studs. Or just leave motor as is and spend on tune and fuel system. If anything get upgraded valvesprings and pushrods for the motor. Should have no prob running up to 10psig on pump gas with adequate fuel supply and correct calibration and fmic

Just leave the stock heads on it, no reason to change them out IMO. You can make 600 plus on the stock heads just fine with the right turbo.
