holy banging off the rev limiter!

What rear end is out back? If it is stock there is a solution coming out very soon to run an Explorer 8.8" IRS diff with custom axles.

it might have a LS in it but your still acting like a ricer doing a burnout off the box like that. for the love of god shift next time

Not to hate but like everyone else said; your motor won't last long banging the rev limiter under boost-that's an FI nono.

Its stock t2 rear end.. I've been wanting to swap over to the explorer setup but not had time and so far there isnt a quality drop in unit. (not to mention mine is still holding up ok for now.)

Yeah well when the tires are spinning rev limiter tends to happen.. And since the whole point of the video was a long burnout (without braking) wouldnt you think I would want to keep it going?

I didnt realize it was a ricer thing to do burnouts with Mickey Thompsons without a water box.. water boxes are or for drag racers, i'm not either.

93formto98t/a, why dont you explain to me why a rev limiter hit will destroy a motor faster than making 700+hp @ the same rpm.

when you're under boost and start rapidly changing the AFR the pistons don't tend to like it much.

my idea of a racer is someone who is not using thier brain. If trying to look cool is what you wanted to do, then do the smart thing and do it the right way. but when you are killing you engine like that, we are impressed. you run a 275 tire im pretty sure that car could kill tires for a mile LOL.

but can you tell us more about your set up it does look like a sweet little car. no hard feelings

There is an art to a burnout, and when performed correctly can be very cool. Yours need some work.

I also have an ls rx7. I suggest starting in 2nd gear, and trying to hold it around 5500rpm.

use the brake next time, then roll out and pull the next gear when you get near your rev limit. you'll get way more smoke anyways....

I'm not saying hanging on the rev limiter is something healthy for your engine, and I don't make a habit of it, so please don't mistake that..

93formto98T/A:
Actually thats real close to false, it really depends on the fuel cut method but,...
What will kill an engine is not rapidly changing AFR but detonation/preignition (as i'm sure you know). When the fuel is cut there can still be a small amount taken into the next cycle (normally from the cylinder walls) but generally only a small amount which is normally NOT enough to produce enough heat to destroy a piston. One detonation event generally is NOT enough to ruin pistons anyway.
(notice I use generally and normally, because we all know there can be exceptions.)

Grr:
I believe bending pushrods is a function of rpm NOT a rev limiter. Accelerating through the top of a gear under high load will be equally bad (most likely worse), and we all still do that..

tomz28:
All I can squeeze under the stock body work is a 275/285 so I have to get the stickiest tires they make.

norotor7:
You clearly can't read (read the title of the movie). The rev limit isnt much higher than 5500 anyways (6200).

kmracer:
Thanks for the input, although I was trying to NOT use the brakes, I may try that next time.

Its a pretty normal setup i suppose: fully built 347, GTK1000 turbo (76mm), and pretty much everything else rebuilt/built up..
I'm currently building a MIL-spec harness for it so I can drop in my Motec soon, Traction control etc here i come! ( although its good for OEM, I can't stand this PCM/hp tuners, just horrible..)

~700rwhp on stock junkyard motors in a few cars beating on the limiter when they spin on the street and no problems so far. Now a nitrous motor and fuel cut limiter is bad, but with my turbo setup it hasn't hurt any parts yet.
