Default Ok to drive car with turbo mounted and cold side unhooked?

This may be a very stupid *** question, but I had no idea how to help a friend of mine. He's doing a rear turbo build on his WS6, similar to STS, but he wants to get it tuned by Jeremy in Tampa.

The hot side is all connected, and the cold side is all fabbed and installed, only he was going to pull and block the piping from one side of the intercooler and just slap the stock intake for the trip. It's a 5 hour drive, but is there any harm in doing this?

I had everything installed on my car at the same time, so I had no clue how to help him.

As long as he has the MAF and air filter hooked up (basically running it NA), vaccum lines disconnected from the turbo, and keeps rpms and load low (no spooling the turbo) then there should not be any issues.

It will be quite easy to overspeed the turbo. I wouldn't try if for more than a couple blocks. Certainly not for 5 hours on the highway.

He needs to unhook his wastegate also so that it vents off the pressure before the turbo. Youll overspin the turbo if you dont

i did this while testing the car before tune and then an hour drive down to get tuned with no issues FWIW on my old set-up about 4 years ago.
