Default Help with bottom end

My lq4 is at the machine shop now and I am buying pistons and rods as soon as I know the final bore of the cylinders. I am not too familiar with building motors and was just wondering what pistons and rods I should buy. I want forged pistons and forged rods. I want to be around 9-1 or 9.5-1 compression. I have 317 heads that I am putting on the car also. I am using the stock crank and just need to know what pistons and rods. Also, should I use all ARP bolts?

what are your goals with the car?

yes arp studs/bolts where needed...your machine shop isnt familiar with building lsx motors? if not pack it up and go to a place that knows these motors...i honestly think they should know what would be best for your combo and you shouldnt have to ask this question...also if you searched thru the fi section, there is tons of info on whats good and whats not...good luck!

It is just going to be a street car around 600-700hp. My motor is at a reputable shop but I really haven't discussed any parts with them yet because they are really busy. This is just my first motor I am building and do not have tons of experience. The owner of the shop is going to call me as soon as he gets the cylinder wall diameter so I can order my pistons. Next he wants me to bring my pistons and rods in so he can balance the block. Can someone explain to me how exactly they balance the block?

They don't balance the block. They balance the rotating assembly. ie. the reciprocating parts. There are some good definitions, just google "balance rotating assembly".

For pistons, I trust Diamond, Wiseco, or Ross.

For rods: Oliver, Callies, or Scat. (descending order of $$$)

A lot of people go with ARP 2000 fasteners. For a 700 horse motor you should be fine with 8740's, but I'm sure someone will contradict me.
