Default Should the supercharger "free spin"?

I bought a vortech v-9 g-trim supercharger kit and when I turn the supercharger it doesn't free spin and kind of makes a metal on metal sound. It isn't like grinding but I was just wondering if a little noise is normal. I mean there is prob no oil in it so it isn't lubed either.

Thanks for any added input.

When I say free spin, I mean it does turn well but it doesn't turn without noise. Kinda hard to explain but maybe if someone here has one of these superchargers they can enlighten me.

It should have some resistance till it gets going but should only be inertia setting in on the gears and impeller. It should make a gear n bearing sound but not a grinding sound, if that makes sense.

Ok, I think I am fine then. I was just turning it with my hand. Also if u haven't seen my other thread, what size injectors and what fuel pump should I look at for 5-8psi?

^^^one walbro is good for about 600hp and at 8 psi you'll be nearing that number, maybe not at but near. this leaves you with a few options,
stick with one
go with 2 walbro 255's and have plenty of room to grow later
other pumps that are external, always a good and reliable option, im not familiar with most of these, someone else will chime in
and theres also several intank 340lph pumps to choose from

injectors, 60's would fit well but remember that f bodys run 4 bars of fuel pressure, so if you find a set that are 50 lb/p hour at 3 bars then they will be just over 60 lb/p hour on your car

so a lot depends on your power goals both now and later

itll sound like gears meshing, theyre also alot harder to turn by hand than youd initially think. remember that for every turn of the little wheel, youre turning the big wheels a few more times. The noise is normal though, thats why they whine at idle

Thanks for all the replies guys. Hopefully in my other thread I can decide on injectors and fuel pump. And the walbro fuel pump, is that supporting 600 rwhp or HP at the crank?

thats the thing, a 600hp motor will put down different power for a 4l80e, 4l60e, t56, 6l80e, th400, th350, power glide. even setting up a converter differently will change the WHP. so thats 600hp at the wheels BUT fuel pressure should be closely monitored at that power level if you stick with one pump.

that being said, if you wanna stick with one pump you should probably go with a 340lph single instead of a 250lph.

Ok I am getting a 340lph fuel pump from aeromotive. Now I am trying to find a place to get a decent deal on 8 injectors. Problem is I still haven't decided on what size injectors I need.

I would go with the DW301 pump over the Aeromotive, Deatschwerks is also a sponsor here https://ls1tech.com/forums/fueling-i...uel-pumps.html

Also PM AgFormula02 on here he has a set of Siemens 60lb injectors for sale I'm sure he would sell at a really good price.

Why would you go with the dw301 over the 340lph? Also are 60# injectors too big for a 400-450rwhp application? Because that will be what I am at for a good while...

What part number is the aeromotive 340 stealth in tank fuel pump that I will need? I see 3 different part numbers to 340 stealth in tank fuel pumps on a non-sponsor web site.

Reason for the DW301 is the new Aeromotive pumps have had a few failures with not so many miles on them. They are made in China and not even rated E-85 compatable. The Deatschwerks also flow great and offer great support on this website, they are top notch.

60# should be just fine in a boosted application. You should be able to use a 42-50# injector, but there won't be much left in the 42# size. With those 3 sizes, they should all be streetalbe once you get the tune dialed in.
