Just get a SS one, use 309 wire to weld it.

Well, the wastegate was used and missing the flanges. I wanted to find some mild steel flanges to make it easier. It sounds like that may not be an option.

Do you guys think I can get away with my 80/20 Argon/CO2 mix with the 309 wire? I'm using a miller 135xp mig welder. (110v) I really dont want to buy a tank of tri-mix just for these few welds.

Madmax - I may take you up on that!

see if you can find someone local with a tig to weld it for you...if you prep it, won't take long at all, therefore cheap.

would be alot less hassle than buying the proper wire and gas.

hell you could just mig it with mild steel wire and it would most likely last a few years depending on how much weight you have hanging off of the weld. however it could also crack and fall off. LOL. if you prep it and mark everything with a sharpie i will tig it up for you. just remember it has to fit tight

i used a mig on mine with steel wire and have had no issues. its not going to hurt it one bit if you dont use a stainless wire.

I'll just throw away all my 309 filler rod when I weld stainless to mild...what was I thinking?

the OP doesn't have a TIG...

I usually will use normal steel wire and 25/75 when welding mild to SS and have had no problems. When I wire weld SS to SS, I use 308 wire and tri mix gas and its a clean strong weld.

thats why I recommended the OP find someone with the right gear to weld it. sure you can weld SS to MS with regular filler, but it will have much more proprensity to crack!
