gt55 turbo and a 5.3
So other then nitrous is there ant other way to get this thing to spool up at the starting line any faster
The motor is a stock 5.3 with head studs and ls6 cam
have two step low set a 3750 and trans brake at 4500 stalls locks up a 4700
I was on the low speed for 4.5 secs and on the trans brake for 2.5 secs and only made 4 pounds of boost and it took 1.8 secs into the run to increase from there
Air/ fuel is 13.8 on the brake and had 24 degrees of timing till 6 pounds of boost
please help with suggestions
other wise it is going to get a 100 shot for 3500 to 5000

man thats a big turbo for a stock 5.3. maybe get a custom cam to help spool? surprised though sitting on the 2 step gets only 4 pounds. sitting on the brake i think id shoot for a lower afr... the hole idea of a 2 step is to get unburnt fuel into the exhaust and combust right before the turbine (or in the turbine?) more fuel the better to a point. Also im definetely no expert but ive researched that lower timing can also help spool because it makes a less efficient burn in the chamber and more raw fuel into the exhaust..

I just looked and the Garrett site says,
Five free float, non-wastegate turbine housings available.

I agree with got-a-ls1. That's really to big of a turbo for a stock 5.3. If you had more cubes that would help you out the most. IMO that is. Build your engine around the turbo. A bigger turbo is not always better if don't have the engine to back it up.

Quick spool valve?
Coat and wrap the headers / exhasut parts?
More aggresive 2 step?
Higher stall?
Taller Gears?
Get some weight out the car? (wont help spool but will help the car get off the line)
More timing in low boost (as said above)?
Cant really think of anything else right now, and the above might not be suitable.
Ta,
Chris.

I know someone who could help you come up on the transbrake better, email me at john@motorsports-media.com and I'll give you his info.

whats your timing retard on the 2-step.
my old car (small motor, semi big turbo) like @-15 to -20 degree on the box. Used to build a good amount of boost off the line.
plus it makes good fire lol

There are two schools of thought on spooling both can work. You are smack dab in the middle. I go to the dead lean school. When on the first step I am about 16to1 A/F and
40* of timing. even on the TB I am at 13/1 and 30* timing
You also need to makw sure you have the 1.00 AR or you will never spool it. Call Tial and talk to them if you are at all unsure

I have ran that engine for two years doing just what I posted. I had Kurt urban look it over last winter as I was swaping to a better set of heads and he said bearing, rings everthing looks great. Your experience at this is what again?

Been tuning cars for about 10 years and have not lost a single motor that my partner built (or a stock one for that matter) in those 10 years of tuning with the exception of one that a guy was beating on with only 1 quart of oil in the motor. He spun a bearing.
I admit I am new to the LS motors though. I am here to learn.
I am not saying what you are saying is wrong. I am sure it will work. But boost + 40 degrees of timing and 16:1 afr is scary to me. I just would not feel comfortable with that.
How about you?
