stock 5.3 strong enough?

Default stock 5.3 strong enough?

saw the hot rod mag. artilcle of pushing the 4.8 engine to 1200 hp. came across an iron 5.3 and wondering if they will hold up to just as much abuse? anyone have any luck boosting a stock 5.3 shortblock? and any suggestions on what casting head to run? im thinking the 317s will lower the compression to much so i was thinkin maybe the 241 heads or even 243s. let me know what you guys think. oh yea, and goal is to run 14 lbs.

Usually your post count doesn't mean squat around here. But clearly you are new asking the questions you are.

Do a search on user member "Skinnies". He holds the stock iron 5.3 short block record currently.

or you can simply say yes, they've proven themselves well into the 8's. you should do just fine at 14#'s with arp studs, just figure out what comp ratio you wanna run.

Some have gone 8's with them and im sure there is more people that have blown them up. The people who have gone 8's know what they are doing and/or have a super light car. I would say the average guy shouldn't have a problem getting one to run 10's and 9's in a average weight car.

agreed but he's not gonna run 8's on only 14#s which is why i'm saying its strong enough. the tune is always the key ingredient of course.

wow! that's even more impressive!! just about makes me wanna sell my 402 and buy one and do rods & pistons in! i already have my turbo kit and turbo and not sure if a 5.3 would do well with spooling. although my 4788 seems pretty damn popular with the supra crowds and i dont think they have that many cubes. now look what you did! i've gotta go look this up and start thinking! hahahaa

trying to figure out the comp. ratio, would 317 heads lower the compression to much or would it be better to go with some 241/243 castings?

on 14lbs id just get a meth kit and stick with the 241 style heads to keep spool time down.

Compared to a 317 head they keep the compression up which would make it spool faster.
