I say pull a couple caps to check bearings throw your arp bolts/ studs on the new motor clean it up and let it eat. No since in turning a 300 dollar junkyard motor into a 600 or 700 dollar motor. That's the beauty of a 300 dollar motor you really don't have to give a crap about it.

So true man! Will the ls2 style rods from my 04 fit in this 03 block?? If I did them I'm sure I would have to get it re balanced... I pulled a couple caps they look perfect!

Just read all of this. Tons of good info. I'm doing a similar build in a 93 mustang coupe. Awesome build man!

Yep, they sure would. Most guys just throw them in and have at it. I was looking for a set for my LQ4 or the 5.3 I have in my garage for when the time comes.

I would just leave it as is, No telling how many miles are on it, but if everything looks good that means its happy the way it is and will continue to be until you start pushing 800+ RWHP, then its a crap shoot. If you start changing things up rods ect, your going to need new bearings and you are back to having to break it in easy/ spend more money.

Just stab that bad boy in there as is with the fasteners and LS9 gaskets and let it eat. When it breaks get another 300 dollar motor and go again. Doesnt matter if a motor's forged or stock they all eventually meet the same fate when you are dealing with these power levels. Just keep the boost to a consevative 15-16 psi on the street and put it on kill at the track and it should last awhile.

Swap the rods and pistons over from the LS2, it's worth it. Especially them being a flat top piston for the added compression.

I honestly wouldn't use the ARP bolts. You're not turning enough RPM to need them IMO and I've never seen a bolt break or come apart. Just bent rods.

I think your clearances were too tight. What were they?

I would like to use them I just need to have them checked because the spun bbearing did a number on the rod. Also from the looks the pistons seem like identical in each motor .....as for clearances they were stock

Thanks man I appreciate that. Its the whole reason I post often. I am finding different things through experience and I hope that it can be somewhat helpful to others on here. I know I learned a ton from here and other members also so if you ever have questions feel free to ask

I honestly think what did your bearings in is the rod bolts. I wouldn't even mess with them on stock rods.

Ya too much clamping force can't handle them. I left stock bolts and rods in also going to get a meth kit before I start running it. Seems like something I should of done before. Live and learn. I want to run race gas and meth lol
But while I run the stock bottom I'm going to build a forged motor for the next round. hopefully I can make this last till the end of the season......
