Probably find it under DIY electronic stethoscope.
This type of thing was the first thing I tried for an electronic det can. It was better than nothing for sure, but I found that there was just too much ambient noise with it. When I finally got the setup working well with the Bosch wideband knock sensor and the right amount of "gain" on it meaning the right resistance on the signal line, it was MUCH better for hearing the things I wanted to hear.

It was a few years ago, but I think maybe I ended up putting a diode into the system somehow too, to further reduce the noise....

The first type of det cans I tried were the flattened end copper pipe bolted to the block, and a hose over the other end of the copper pipe running to some hearing protector style head phones from Harbor Freight with holes drilled in them for the hose to go through. That was a cheapassed setup too, and worked pretty well.

Overall though, the Bosch wideband with the right electronics on it is a very nice setup.

That was kinda out of no where....and quite honestly Skinnies HAS been able to make stock shortblocks last in some pretty stout cars. I try to pay attention when people with much more experience talk. I may choose to ignore it if I have a different idea, but I do pay attention

I thought that too, but having a car with 700+ rwhp on stock parts I could probably manage to get it slammed back together pretty quick. I would miss the daily burnouts haha

So how is the car running with the reduced timing? I know you probably can't keep yourself from putting on the hitman monkey face from time to time and laying down some pairs of black stripes...

Also, what is your feeling on the NVH in the car with the solid motor mounts? I realize it's not exactly a quiet, modern car, but do the solid motor mounts make it really noisy and buzzy in the car, or is it really not all noticeable?

I'll comment on solid mounts also, was worried about them when we did the ltd, but it is fine, we have done a few other cars also and no issues with the solid mounts. Small cam and not a nasty vibrating like hell motor makes the solid mounts plenty fine.

just like a motorcycle with solid engine to frame mounts, there are certain rpm's or speeds where you will get vibration, absolutely, just drop a gear, or speed up or slow down etc, other than that i have hundreds of videos driving my car on the street and its quiet and smooth, well cept for the 4 inch downpipe
