i have seen too many 918s personally break and i am scared of them

otherwise if martin can create a turbo cam for you with under 600 lift i really like the pac 1218 and the 1518 they are like 140-200 bux the 1518 is rated for over 600 lift.
Cool thank you for the info Matt! I think im going to pull these 918's anyway they are not helping my cause so big cam here I come!

i probably picked up 75whp from the cam,

since i was only making 600 on the nose on 20psi before.

i bet it would do 700 on 20 or damn close, but i dont wanna push too hard on pumpgas now haha.
damn that is nice, should definitely move out.
Maryland INTL raceway opens first weekend of march. Can't wait to see the new track #'s.

Thank you. Guys will tell you all day long not to mess with an aftermarket cam and that the LS6/LS9 etc. cams will do the job and they will, but 75rwhp for 400 bucks? Seriously, that is an awesome return for the investment, not to mention your car will have an idle that you will love turning the key over to listen to, and it will perform better overall. There is no denying that.

I have lobes that would work well for something like this. It would need to be custom though.

Should be interesting, seeing what it will 60 ft now, and the rest of incrementals.

For 400 bucks I would just turn up the boost instead, But since(I read somewhere) you had that cam from the G8, might as well see how it sounds in with the 5.3.

I knew there was a restriction there just judging by you making 20+ psi and nitrous to make only 700whp.

Like I said before I'm on a 76mm rearmount making 610whp on 10#. Only difference in our motors was the cam. That's all I have, the rest is showroom stock.

My cam is a 238/240 .600/.605 112 lsa

I don't understand why guys still want to argue that spending 400 dollars on a cam and getting a return of 75rwhp isn't money well spent. What happens when you turn the boost up and nothing happens?

Boost is a measure of restriction as the guy above me pointed out. Denmah is now making the same amount of power on 11psi that he made with a much higher boost level before. If that is not the most tell tale sign that the restriction has been removed(The Camshaft was the restriction) then I don't know what else to say. Everyone has their own opinion and I respect that, and because of that I won't resort to name calling or dirt slinging to make my opinion known.

I know I quoted your post, but I'm speaking in general terms here so don't take it as me speaking directly to you bud.

PM sent.

The problem becomes when you have a power restriction(stock shortblock) before the cam is a restriction. Most can use the stock l33 cam or ls6 cam and be fine at sub 850rwhp IF they build everything right. We've done it as have others plenty of times.

Now will your cam gain power over an ls6 cam, probably, but is it needed at sub 850rwhp on a stock shortblock, IMO no.

So every turbo car in the world has a stock short block? 700rwhp in Denmah's case is not 850rwhp and that turbo is going to be pretty much done at 20psi where it made 700rwhp on his car. So if it's a restriction at 20psi, the turbo is done right around 20psi, how does he get to 850rwhp?

This has nothing to do with my cam, his cam or any other vendors cam. It is about returns on the dollar amount invested. That is all. I'm tired of arguing about this stuff.

i also burned that one 799 head and went to a 243 on the one side wich brought compression up to 180psi on that side.
also could have helped.

but the car was never this plain stupid on the street with only 11psi
I am alittle confused since I always was led to believe that the 799 and 243 are the exact same head with a different casting number . But you are saying that one is giving you lower compression. was your 243 head milled at all?

I think the big takeaway from all this is that with the cam swap, he was able to go from 600-611 rwhp while dropping from 20psi to 12psi. That's a HUGE improvement in efficiency of the system. 8 psi drop in pressure and 11 hp more! That's awesome! I would love to see that in any setup.

While true, you could just turn up the boost a few more pounds to get to 700, but doing that has some drawbacks. Think of the heat generated by 30 psi vs a better flowing system that would do it at 20. We already know that a reduced IAT = Safer setup. Not to mention, I've seen a friend's LS6 intake crack and blow out the back at 26 psi. I don't think they were designed for that much pressure, not to mention the strain on the rest of the systems (30 psi backpressure on the fuel system, increased backpressure on the engine to push 30 psi through the compressor, blown boots/couplers, etc).

Lastly, with the lower LSA (valve overlap), I'm sure there an improved hp/tq curve due to faster spooling. Overall, my opinion is that this cam swap was a huge success. I'm glad Matt and Martin shared the results with us.

As for maxing out the shortblock, there's a huge gap between where he is now (~650) and where we've seen these engines go (Hot Rod Big Bang Theory ->1200). I think this cam will help him get there better than an LS6/LS9 cam.

And I'm sure he'll let us come along for the ride!
