This has nothing to do with my cam, his cam or any other vendors cam. It is about returns on the dollar amount invested. That is all. I'm tired of arguing about this stuff.
The problem is turbos don't get "done" at a certain pressure, they get done at a certain massflow.

Plus, trying to get more massflow at a lower PR, can just put you right off the right side of the compressor map(overspeed).

I'm not saying a better cam is never needed. I'm just saying that in the stock shortblock applications, the money could be spent better in other places, for example a better turbo.

He needs to buy a better turbo, I find it sad the 80mm magnum can't make more than a tc76. I think with a stock l33 cam and a better turbo he'd make a lot more power. With a precision unit(while yes costing more, but a lot of that offset could be saved other places) and a locked converter would be capable of well over 900rwhp vs the 700rwhp it is running out of steam on the 80mm as you mentioned above.

I am going to do something like that when we dyno the Camaro, it has an L33 stock cam in it,and we are going to do the dyno logging intake pressure, and exhaust backpressure. Then we are going to switch to 1.8 rockers, and run the same dyno, at basically the same time to see what the intake pressure does, and how the exhaust pressures are affected. And of coarse the power numbers.

Should be interesting to see if what we think should happen actually does, and how all the data looks.

If we gain a 25% increase(i doubt it will be that high) on the NA engine from the higher lift and the slight duration change because of the 1.8 rockers, that would only give us a 5hp per lb of boost increase for the 400 bucks the rockers would cost, not really worth it. because the 50 hp increase @10lbs could be seen with just 2 lbs more boost on the non-rocker setup.

But we will learn something, and at least if something happens to the short block, we don't have to worry about trashing that money, like we have done to cams before.

I figure it is time to introduce myself. My name is Mike, I bought Matt's Fairmont. While I probably will not be changing the formula of the Mont that much now that Matt has it dialed in to the point where it makes great power and should live, I will be racing it and I will be making plenty of videos of it. I do plan on making some minor changes to the car, since I am in my 40's and fear death. LOL.

The cage will go in, the Lincoln Locker may be replaced, some suspension mods and maybe some effort directed at putting it on a mild weight reduction plan. I plan on keeping this thread alive and bringing regular updates about the car. I live in Louisiana, so the car will be back at the track very soon as this is our season down here.

This is not my first Fairmont, but it is my first LS based car. I have read all of Matt's various threads on the car and I am slowly coming up to speed with the LS world. I am sure there is a learning curve.

I am going to have alot of fun with this car. Thinking of bringing it to Tx2k13 this year.

Mike

That is where our old "JunkYard Dog" Fairmont went also, I am pretty sure sure his name was Mike too.

Don't wreck it like the guy that bought ours.

Why do you feel like that? At least the fairmont will continue doing what it has been doing rather than going to a crusher!

If he lists his offerings of Chinese turbo stock, I'm not very good at finding it! Lol

At any rate, I was looking around on eBay for some twins possibilities, and I guess what looked good to me were some "GT35"s that CXracing had on there. 61.3mm compressor inducer and 62mm turbine exducer, with a .68 T4 turbine housing for $289 shipped. I have no reason to think this is right other than the compressor is not larger than the turbine, and it seems to be in the right size range... Haha... Oh, and it has a reasonable sounding A/R.

58s might be cool as long as the turbine wheels are not too small.

**EDIT**
Tonight CXracing has those "GT35s" I mentioned above for $244 shipped OR BEST OFFER! Wow... That's cheaper than a GT45.
