Default Rumor on cometic gaskets.

I was talking to Shaun Carter from smc performance today about the cometic gaskets and he told me that Cometic had made an announcement that they were having problems with water leaks on there HP gaskets. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem or heard anything about this? Are there any other gaskets that I could run untill they get this straightend out? I want to try and return the ones i have for the new updated ones that won`t leak water and I`m not gonna wait to get the new updated gaskets before I do my heads, cause i`m sure it will be awhile before they get it straightend out. So what are your opinions Fel pro or the stock 6.0 gaskets? I`ve heard that the 98-00 cars use differant gaskets then the 01-02 car does the same go for the 6.0 heads? Is the differance in the heads or the block? Thanks guys.

You can't go wrong using the multi layer steel stock 6.0 gasket. I put 24 psi on a set friday with no problems.

I have the regular cometic (non hp) gaskets and they seem to be working great. No water problems here.

I have the cometic HP gaskets. I have been using them for 2.5 years. I have never had a problem. I have even reused them 3 times now.

The f-body started using the mls gaskets in 2002. I would check to see if your heads have notches in them before I used the mls gaskets.

My Cometic's are MLS. My car does seem to use coolant. I have not pinpointed the problem yet. It doesn't smoke and the oil looks more or less O.K. and the coolant looks clean but I have to add coolant too frequently. I've been putting up with it but I do need to get it figured out. The first time I found out it was low was after I had it dyno tuned in Detroit. They were really beating on it and on the drive home I heard the Vortech aftercooler pump making noise. It had run dry so I filled the coolant but it has been using it since.

You should never have to add coolant so if it`s low you definately have a problem.

I purchased the cometic gaskets in June 2003 and the drivers side was leaking - called cometic and told them the problem; they replaced it for free. I haven't had a problem since.

Go to their Site. www.cometic.com The difference in the HP and the MLS are explained there. Basicly the HP's are designed a little differently around the cylinder bore. Something to do with the metal thinkness around the bore itself being thicker and able to handle more HP and stress.

I just went on their site and I didn't find anything on the HP style gaskets. My info came from a guy at Cometic. He explained the HP's to me over the phone. They were more money, and the guy at Cometic and I felt I didn't need them, so I went with the MLS.

Just my 2 cents.

It is good insurance to use copper spray. I used it on my cometics with no problems for 2 years. I spary my car with a considerable amount at times. Lingenfilter uses copper spray on all their twin vets. JFYI

The HP version has an embossed O-Ring and a separate piece inside that goes between the bores.

Last time I asked Cometic about the rumour they denied any problems.
Assembling an HP MLS motor right now.
Will give them a call tomorrow.
