Default How much can a stock bottom end LS1 take? What catch can to use?

I have the Incon Twin Turbo kit on my stock bottom end LS1 in my '01 WS6. With NOTHING done to the motor, this kit is supposed to make 533 rwhp @ 8 psi. I just recently purchased a Mamo ported FAST 92/92 combo, but I'm hesitant to push anymore through the stock bottom end. How much can these stock bottom end's take. I've heard so many stories from 6 psi-12 psi. Here's what I have done to the motor:

twin Garrett GT2871r's
stock 317 heads (72cc's) w/ comp 918 springs and 7.4 pushrods
GM MLS head gaskets
ARP head studs
Comp Cams 232/232 .578/.578 112+2 LSA (was in from H/C setup)
twin in-tank 235 lph fuel pumps w/ -8 AN fuel lines and high flow rails

I do have a catch can/breather on the car, but I don't think it's the right setup to relieve the crankcase though which leads to my other question...

What catch can is everybody running since Rev Extreme's isn't can't be found anymore? I was told I need a dual valve PCV, but I'm totally clueless there.

As far as what a stock bottom end can take... Read the Sticky - https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...lity-list.html

For PCV system, refer to this thread - https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...ve-answer.html

I called racepartsolutions and got their breather cans with -12 lines. I'd do away with a "pcv" system and just run the breathers

I found the "sticky" after I posted the thread. I even went over them first so I didn't look like an idiot...lol. So much for that.

It depends on alot of varibles. Some people blow the motor on very little boost, like 5-6psi whiles others are putting 12+psi to there stock motor with no issues at all. Now how long will it last running 12+ psi is a different story.

If you want your stock LS1 motor to last, most people will say keep the boost at 7-8psi and have it tuned by a TOP NOTCH TUNER and leave it alone. Thats hard to do though when you see so many people running 9, 10, 11, 12 psi and getting away with it! Then you start getting greedy and KAPOW she goes!

Also, most people will tell you that spending the money on the FAST intake was a waste. The money would have been better spent else where.

general rule of thumb is 600rwhp.... higher the boost the higher chance of detonation cuz of the stock compresson of the motor. theres plenty of guys running 650+rwhp on the stock bottom end, but i wouldn't personally take that chance. keep it safe...8psi, <600rwhp, GREAT tune and give her hell.

i went with the Norris motorsports catch can. it actually has a filter in it.

We do -10 off both valve covers to our vented catch can. You need more venting than the stock PCV can handle.

If you don't know what you're doing like most people stick to low boost. If you take the proper precautions than you can take it a little further. You can read alot of what not to do on this forum from others mistakes. I like the catch can MightyMouse has come up with.

You cannot have too high of octane, detonation kills a stock bottom end.
A cold plug does not hurt performance, yet decreases the chance of detonation.
Well ventilated PCV system with a catch can. Mine pulls through the air inlet as a vacuum source.
Keep the timing safe based off your octane, compression and boost levels.
Proper tune is very important, a lot of safety limits can be setup with the stock pcm.
Be realistic and you can have a great running car that provides smiles for miles

^^
What he said. I run a -10 off each valve cover into a Jaz puke tank.

Sounds like the Fast won't make much of a difference on a boosted motor. Is there a difference between a ls1 & ls6 intake when boosted?

id say youd be buying yourself some times at 550rwhp and a safe tune....keep the rpm's down around 6k. i mean doubling the horsepower on the same 10 year old setup can have its disadvantages....but once you have the new motor lined up and ready to go in...push it and see how far you can get it to go.
