Default Turbo Sizing for a HEAVY T56 Truck?

Anyone have thoughts on sizing a turbo for a heavy (5000+ lb) truck with a 5.3L and a 6-speed T56? How does the weight and the manual trans affect turbo sizing?

I'm mostly curious about turbine sizing. Is a smaller turbine better, or is larger the way to go? Quick spool and usable power is the goal, rarely will I be shifting above 5500rpm. Looking for ~600rwhp.

I have a 76/65 0.96AR on the shelf, and it would probably choke out above 5500rpm, but it would spool well I think. I'd like to use it but could sell it and go with something else.

What about a 68/77?

I have a ball bearing turbo for sale that would spool as fast as your 65 turbine and make more power than the 77, PM if interested its cheap! IMO the 65 is very small and would have huge backpressure but spool quick, and the 77 would be laggy in that application

Thanks for the tips and offer, but I'm avoiding buying a used turbo after I got screwed by SippiSpeedhawk when I bought his used MPT70.

The 76/65 I have is your standard Magnum T76:

Compressor: 76.7 in, 102.3 ex, 0.80 A/R, 4" inlet, 2.5" outlet
Turbine: 74.5 in, 65 ex, 0.96 A/R, T4, 3" v-band

This is the only one I have. I could step up to a 1.15 A/R divided housing. Or buy another one instead of polishing a turd that won't work well.

I would post on the performancetrucks site at the top. Lots of turbo trucks over there. Your username should over there too.

Edit.. I just looked on PT.net and could see that you already have a thread over there. Have you changed your mind from below.?..

"My setup will be a 76mm intercooled KB kit, LS9 gaskets and ARP head studs, 212/212 114 LSA cam."

On a 5.3 L, that 76 mm will do fine.
It would choke out a 6.0 for sure.

Yes, same setup. I'm on pt.net far more often, but there are far more people over here which is why I like to ask questions on tech when I can. Plus lots of people here are running 5.3's now.
