Default New turbo not spinning at idle

Started my car for the first time since putting on the turbo. Its a stock LS1 with a Holset HX55 turbo. I noticed it wasnt spinning at idle. Once I would give it some throttle it would spin, but back to idle it stops. I'm figuring being brand new it may need a little time to warm up and loosen up any assemlby loob and break in a bit, but I'm wondering if there are people that have expeienced the same problem with other turbos. Is something wrong, and should I be looking for anything specific? I also didnt leave it running very long, just a couple min.

with the car off if you can reach in there and flick it around with your finger then everything is fine. not all turbo's spin at idle, and they certainly aren't required to make boost at idle.

hope you got oil running to it

There really isnt much pressure on the exhaust side untill you increase load. On a smaller frame turbo, or one with a small turbine wheel you would notice it moving and possibly even spool when free revving. The fact that your doesnt just goes to say that you probably wont be choaking the turbo at 6k. Pictures of the setup?

Thanks guys. I do have the oil lines hooked up, Yes. I can freely spin the wheel with my finger. I figured its fine I just thought I would ask and get some input.
Great point about not choking up at high RPM's, I figured I wouldnt have a problem with this turbo, things a monster.
Heres a pic of where its at now. I have of course hooked up the upper radiator line since the photo but have not yet hooked up the cold side piping

Great looking set up. I have the same intake but haven't swapped it in yet. They look wicked. Are those also the Edelbrock fuel rails? I was curious if the edelbrock fuel rails that work on the vic jr. also work on the Proflo?

Thanks,
The fuel rails are not the edelbrock units, I couldnt justify spending the extra money on them when I picked these up for $85. I just made some brackets to attach them to the intake.

What kind of car? At a quick glance from that angle, the grille/fascia of it looks like a 5th gen.

Funny, the exact same thing happened to me. I just completed a new engine install with my old Masterpower T70 twinscroll... The old motor had the turbo spinning at idle, but with the new motor in it barely moved until I revved the engine. The oil and engine temps were still kinda cold, so that could be part of the problem as well.

Like others said, once you load on it spooling will be fine.

dont worry about it, after some 700hp pulls it should loosen up a bit

Having the cold side hooked up usually helps it spin also.
