Default Turbo flange braces, what size round bar?

Looking at ideas to brace a BW s480... I've searched the site for a good bit, and while I've gotten a few ideas, I still can't find my root question...

What size round bar and flat stock are you guys using to create bracing and brackets and stuff?

If you happen to have pictures of your brace and wouldn't mind posting them up, that'd be great!

Thanks

I used 1/4" round bar on my S400 turbo. I will post a few pics as well. I hi-jacked the idea from Phil and it worked great.

I cut a corner out of an open t6 flange and used it. That way i could remove the hotside as well. Turbo, flange, support

I think this brace worked great mounted to the head and the bottom of the motor 3/8" rod

Thanks guys...

Camaro9969, is that 1/4" also?

Do you guys just heat the bar stock with an acetylene torch or a propane torch?

You could use either or. I personally prefer an acetylene torch, but have used propane in a pinch, its harder though, lol

The torch will make it real easy though, real fast.

haha yea, I'm already on craigslist looking for an acetylene setup. Unfortunately, I left mine at the machine shop I worked at wayyyyy back in 1998 and then my buddy was killed in (of all things) a mine tunnel collapse.

The last time I used propane for anything like this, it was a pita

The only difference is one heats it up faster than the other haha map gas torch is fine only takes a few seconds to heat it up to red
