I am looking at putting a ls9 cam in a 5.3. I will be doing a front mount single or supercharger at some point in the future. Has anyone done this? whats involved? and if this is a repeat im sorry, I have done a search but didn't really find what I was looking for. If there is a answer just redirect me to the answer thanks.

ok how about is this a decent option or is there a better one? the 5.3 doesn't have a cam so I need to put one in and a custom cam kit is like $680 I am trying to not spend that much mostly because my budget is tight and want to get the most that I can

I checked it a while back and found out it wouldnt work although the stock ls9 cam is dirt cheap, but we had to do an ls6. something about it being a 3 bolt or something hell i dont know. hopefully i was wrong.

ah ****, gen III's are only a one bolt aren't they... So I buy the one bolt to 3 bolt conversion and a ls2 timing cover with sensor some how wire it and I should be good right?

Denmah has used this cam with good success in several of his builds. You need a 3-bolt cam gear, new front cover with cam sensor in the front, and some new valve springs. If you're looking to buy one I have everything you'd need to install it in your motor. Everything is brand new GM stuff in the box. PM me if you're interested. I'm going with a custom Tick cam because I ended up with an L92.

Cam, valve springs , timing cover, cam sensor, and timing set for the LS9is the hard parts you will need, you will also need to extend the cam sensor plug and need a 1k ohm resistor if you are using the stock ecm for the 5.3 or the msd 6010 box.

Thumpn, please explain this 1k resistor if you wouldnt mind..
I have an LS9 cam running in a LR4 4.8 iron block. I got the front cover, 1x gear and the cam sensor extended around to the front and it works fine.
Infact I LOVE the LS9 cam in this 4.8. Driveability seems great, idles excellent around 650rpm. I am still working out some tuning issues.
Im running PAC springs, 408GT covered it pretty well above, look up a guy named denmah, and find how to do it cheap![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
Its never cheap when its done right, but denmah has some good ideas when it comes to doing it cost effectively and in a budget.

I'm running the LS9 cam in my stock LS1. It left me looking for just a little more. In my 72 Camaro build I'm going to be running a 4.8L and I chose to go with a 228/234 .588/.598 @114 LSA. It'll be a few months before I get to turn it over. It only cost me like $50 more than going with another LS9 (with conversion parts ), but I think it was a better choice.

I used a premade extension. Was PERFECT length, not an inch to spare, and works flawless
