I'm running 1/2" head studs on my LQ9 block, here is what I learned, they can help a 1000rwhp engine go to 1150-1200rwhp before pushing water on a thick deck head. It runs in the neighborhood of $500 for the machine work on a cast iron block and takes close to a full day to do.

Bringing this back from the dead. Turbo fab has begun.

Matt is going to weld the insides of the v-bands on the manifolds in hopes to penetrate the cast better.

Probably never. We'd never have time to be able to fulfill orders.

Would be cool though.

Maybe I'm retarded lol. Sometimes I scroll through the thread while I'm driving down the road don't really look closely at the pictures but just at a glance. Either way it looks 6" thick lol.

Maybe you are....LOL! JK

It's definitely 6" thick.

If I were to of kept it at 24" long instead of taking it down to 20" long there would have been a huge difference in price vs. the 4.5" thick, 24" long, 8" high core.

Taking it down to 20" long kept the price identical to what I wanted to spend on the 24" long, 4.5" thick, 8" high core.

The benefit to this core even though it's 20 " long, 6" thick and 8" tall is it can handle a lot more CFM than the 24" L, 4.5" T, 8" H core. With it being thicker it's also more thermal efficient than that core as well.

Intercooler is done.

The outlet is tilted purposefully.

The divider's function is an attempt to utilize the entire core efficiently. At the boost levels I'll be running IAT reduction is critical with an air to air. I'm confident that this core when fully utilized will be good for 1400 crank hp.

Another shot of the divider.

Close up of underneath the divider. This also shows how I designed the end tank and Matt welded it. Basically what we're trying to accomplish is to force the air to make that turn sooner than it would want to by following the path of least resistance. If we didn't do this even though the core is pressurized, it would want to slam into the far side of the core wall and ride the side of the wall all the way up to the top and exit. When the entire core's surface area isn't utilized, you're not getting the maximum benefit of charge cooling as you could if you had used all of the available surface area. Hopefully this all holds up and works great in practice! I'll report back on how the IAT's behave once it's on the track and running.
