Default My TBSS LSx275 Build - PROJECT:RapeTruck

I've been working on this truck since February to make a dedicated Drag truck out of it and I thought I would share some links to the build thread. I wasn't sure where to put it since we don't have a build forum here, but a search revealed most guys put their builds in the forum to the type of build they are doing...so I choose forced inductions. I know building something like this doesn't make sense to most people, But it does to me. I am class building it, but more so to make it the fastest TBSS to date. I just Figured I'd share.

We have dubbed this "PROJECT: RapeTruck"

I look forward to getting this thing down the Track in 2014.

Here's my build over on Yellow Bullet and a Link to a dedicated Page on Facebook.

Looks like a nice build. Just FYI but it'll get more comments here if you copy/paste the thread here so people don't have to follow a link

Noted...I'm correcting that now.

And here it is.

This will be a simple thread with random pics and some info on the build, nothing professional or well thought out in the thread....Ill just post what I have as I have it.

The Goal originally was to build an Extreme outlaw 8.5 TBSS to run in a local series and to run in the Major LS Events like the LSX shootouts and LS Fest in Bowling Green KY. The truck isn't going to make LS Fest this year nor will it run in the 8.5 Series. I am still hoping to make the LSX Shootout in Indy in October. Along the way during the Build and with some of the parts I acquired the truck has slowly evolved out of being an 8.5 limited Trim Truck to an X275 Trim Truck. To Ultimate Goal with this truck is to put it in the 8's and to be the first documented TBSS to do so. I don't know if it will make it there, but we will surely do our best to make it happen.

At the beginning I acquired a Basically Stock Chassis 07 TBSS to begin the process on. I completely stripped the truck to a Shell and immediately sent it out to have an 8.50 Certified Roll Cage Installed. Upon Receiving the truck back from the Cage builder and before it even came off the Trailer, it was Taken to a Chassis Shop in Indiana to have many upgrades and modifications completed including more cage additions, new custom rear end setup, and other items needed to be legal for the projected ET I want the truck to run. While there I continued to purchase and acquire parts for the build and also added more work for the shop to do including all of my turbo piping, Engine mounting and some lightening measures to try to get rid of some dead and un-needed weight on the truck. We all know these trucks are pigs and even in race trim, we expect this to be no exception. The truck is currently still at the chassis shop with a projected completion date of September 15th for me to try to get it home, driveline installed and re-wire the entire truck from the ground up, get it to the tuner, tuned and tested all before Oct. 10th. Its going to be a challenge, but here we go.

Basic Build Specs (as of 8-25-13)
  • Kurt Urban/ERL 6 bolt LS7 Based 427
  • Trick Flow 245 Heads
  • TH400 Trans (from the purple minivan)
  • Ford Custom built Moser equipped 8.8 Rear End
  • GT55 88mm Single Turbo Setup
  • Completely Custom F-Body Styled front Suspension
  • Custom 4 link Rear suspension utilizing factory mounting points to meet class requirements
  • 8.5 Certified Roll Cage with Extras

Special Thanks to Ryan Salway (Member "rsalway") for making my Logo

Frame Notched For Axle Clearance. All front Mounting points for control arms were retained to meet class requirements of Factory mounting points on a four link.

This is where we are mounting the Air to Water Intercooler. Tubing will run behind the passenger seat and along the passenger door before going through the firewall.

Just a little better shots of the turbo Mounting support. The turbo is pretty heavy at 75+ pounds.

Shot of the Stainless Works Header we are using.

And The Motor.....Nothing Speciel here. Needs prettied up.

Because RaceTruck?

The lifeblood of the system has finally arrived.

Hmmmm.......current truck weight with no drivetrain.....this could be interesting.

We did have a little Shennannigans at the end of the evening though in the garage. Never again, that tiny burnout took an hour to clear out. Lol.

Turbos here.....Got A/R?

Couple of random shots last night while messing with the truck a little

Pretty rear end......cover.

Stripped engine bay and getting ready to pressure wash whole truck then prep engine bay for paint Monday.

Pile of parts ready to go for powder coating.

Just a little bit of piping.

Front and rear coilovers

Gotta get the axles back to moser to be shortened and resplined.

Almost ready to spray the engine bay.

Well, it didn't turn out too bad, I really wish I had a paint booth to cut down on dirt and it would have looked really good.

Yeah I started painting the roll cage using a foam brush and roller....enough of that noise, ill spray it tomorrow.

Then I decided to do this while cleaning up.....SMDH. Just one of those days.

Rear end back and shortened yet again.

Pretty powdercoated suspension pieces.

Still more coming...

[quote=MattKatz]The cage is painted, hopefully it looks good today, because if not, it'll have to wait to be fixed.

Up till 3 am making the new master cylinder and brake pedal fit the truck properly. Now to get it all welded up and painted today.

Cut the poor transmission apart

Then made it better

Problem

Problem solved

Voila!! It fits.

Got wiring?

Got a few other random pic I'll post.

Painted rear end ready for re-install.

Radiator fitment and modification....doesn't get much tighter than this.

Mid plate installed

Modified master cylinder mounting plate welded in.

About a pound of un-needed studs from the rear floor area.....literally a pound.

Hopefully sometime next year I'll have outgrown this Cert' and need to add a lot more monkey bars.

A little hood fitment this evening before taking it in for a special wrap.

Hood is completely fitted now and ready to get its finish. And who says a Glastek doesn't fit well?

Here's my axles back from Moser after having shortened again. 35 spline, Star Flanged and gun drilled.

UPS brought me a new toy from Summit today.
Tiny little guy.

Here, I'll post some more pretty pics to change direction on a positive note.

Soo much to do, so little time.

Test fit the switch panel with the upper center console properly in place. It's a tight fit but should work out well.

Also played around with the porter cable I just got and some Adams compounds to see if I could bring the wore out paint back to life.
The results look very promising.

Not a lot done this weekend, but I spent last evening painting a few parts like the grill, the front emblem and tinting the head and tail lights.

Tomorrow I'll get back at it hard to try and get it done.

The END (To Date)

Motor is a 5.3 6 Bolt ERL super deck built by Kurt Urban, 10:1 with an ls7 based dry sump. Turbo is a custom Midwest/C.R.T. Built GT55 based 88mm with a 1.78 A/R single Scroll housing. Trans for now is a 3Speed TH400 unit RMVB with a Hipster Transbrake. Front suspension is F-Body based and rear wnd is a Custom 8.8 ford unit with a 3.55 gear. EFI will be done via Holley dominator and all the custom chassis and piping was done by Gary Rohe Racecars in Larenceburg, IN. I am realistically hoping this thing puts down 1200+ wheel without leaning on it and I am hoping projected weight with driver is 3850 or less.
