Default Project BoostedZ28: 370ci/S480ET-R HO/T56

Been holding off for a while but finally time to make a build thread for my car. Car started life as a 94 Z28 LT1/T56. Bought it at 16 (currently 19) as my first car. Throughout high school I did full bolt ons, nitrous outlet plate kit, built the T56, did some suspension work, and threw a 9in rear in out back. Car was a ton of fun for a high school car and trapped 120 on the juice. July 2012 the tired ol LT1 finally had enough and went on me. Ended up spinning 2 rod bearings and a main bearing. Car hasn't been driven since that night.

Over the past year and a half I've been gathering parts for the new build *enter snowball effect*. Hoping to have this one wrapped up for TX2K14. Here's how it should all lay out when it is finished.

Motor:
370ci Iron block. Stock crank, Eagle Rods, Diamond Pistons
Custom Turbo Cam from Martin @ Tick Performance
LSA Cylinder Heads CNC ported by TEA
Ported LS3 Intake

Boost:
Custom T6 turbo kit from Huron Speed (thanks again Jon!)
BW S480 ET-R HO (billet wheel and race cover, 1.32 a/r, from Jose @ Forced Inductions)
TurboSmart PowerGate 60mm wastegate
TurboSmart RacePort BOV
TurboSmart Eboost2 controller

Fuel:
Bosch 80lb High Impedance Injectors
Twin in-tank Walbro 340's
(Undecided) Meth system

Trans:
Viper Spec T56
McLeod RXT clutch
McLeod SFI bellhousing
MGW Shifter

Rear:
Spooled 9in with 3.55's (28in tire)
Wolfe Drag Bar

Car is gonna be mainly a street car but I want to go single digits with the 6-speed. I am also hoping to make 1000 to the wheels, but that would just be an added bonus.

Motor:

Heads (still need to be sent out for porting)

In it's glory:

LT1 removal service:

How it currently sits

I have a bunch of parts coming in these next few weeks and will be back home for a few weeks for Christmas so expect a lot of updates towards the end of this month

Car should have no issues hitting either of your goals. Thats a solid motor you put together.

Question why did you pick the T6 style system over T4?

JAX basically said it. I originally had the T4 kit with the 7875 Turbonetics but quickly saw it's limitations. With the T6 kit, you have so many more options when trying to make big power, which is the ultimate goal. I figured if I'm building the rest of my setup to handle it, why not finish the job completely...

FFB.. still a buster.

And I am still waiting... lil ole T4 LT1 should be run the **** over by this bad boy race car.
Knew you would see this sooner or later. Lol. Yes to all three of those questions. We both know turbo cars aren't too insane street driving out of boost. Setup on paper should make the power, but we'll have to wait and see. I'd love to go single digits. Will take a lot of seat time but that is the ultimate goal. Pepper that ole LT1. I'll be looking for it this summer

Springtime. I need to hang around more people with cameras haha. That split second cut in power really does take the hit off the trans between shifts. Boost stays steady like an auto and the 2step is just fun.

Pretty damn well to be honest. The fact that the turbo has the light billet wheel, matched with a nice cam Martin spec'd me all help out. I see no problem of any significant lag with this setup

Some updates. Finally home for a couple weeks so I get to mess with the car some more. I plan on finishing the engine bay while I am here. Ordered new piston rings but Total Seal was out of stock so those wont arrive till New Years day. Hopefully I can throw those in before I head back to TX. Also sent the LSA heads off to TEA so they should be working on them pretty soon.

Decided to modify the rad support last night to fit the new rad in.

Still have to trim the top for the filler neck but it's almost there

Some pics of the custom T6 kit from Huron Speed

5in fender exit downpipe (because racecar)

Custom 4in core intercooler with 4in in/out and custom fbody mounting brackets. This mounts in place of the front bumper support.

4in stainless cold side piping. It is angle welded and bead rolled with only straight couplers to prevent them from blowing off.

Merge pipes from truck manifolds with T6 flange

V-band flange for 60mm Turbosmart wastegate

Did Huron build the intercooler? Liking the build. Im building a similar build.
370 solid roller, 1/2" studs, o-ringed, TFS 235's, Holley Hi-Ram, S480 ET-R HO.
Hoping to make over 1,000rwhp also and run atleast mid 5's in the 1/8th.

Cant wait to see how yours turns out!

Thanks man! Yours sounds like a sick build as well. I am not 100% sure if Huron build it but I am pretty sure they did. I'll let Jon or Casey chime in on that...

Hold on guys. We actually will have progress updates from here on out. Been on a parts ordering tear the past week and a half. Turbo finally came from Forced Inductions. Heads left TEA on Friday and should be here in the next day or two. Cam will be here this week. Custom harness from PSI conversions and some misc parts from Kirk were all picked up today. All of the trans conversion parts showed up last week. ATI balancer showed up last week, and various seals, gaskets, and ARP bolts all showed up last week.

Rods/Pistons were pulled from the short block and were treated with some Total Seal gapless steel top rings and new rod bearings. Upon tear down everything looked good in the motor so new bearings and gaskets will be all it will need

Dash was also pulled to remove the HVAC box and other un needed things behind the dash. As expected, the dash pad did not survive. No surprise there

Picture of the turbo. Box weighed 68lbs so needless to say, it isnt small. Thanks again Jose!
