Sounds like you need a glide and a gearvendors unit.

.
Local craigslist is the easiest, but racingjunk.com almost always has a few. Also local dragstrip forums classifieds. Stock case glide with all the goodies just sold on ours for $700.

When I looked the GV units on ebay were usually from motor homes and would require the glide adapter from GV. I didn't need the "shorty" though. Not sure if you can get the "shorty" adapter or if uses the same base GV unit.

Worst case you'd get stuck with a 3k price tag from GV. For a "bolt-in" solution that still isn't horrible. If you're not using the trans-brake or loading the trans up hard from a dig, an OEM case glide may survive... I have no idea. My trans guy runs a factory case glide at 1000whp on his 2100lb rail car, T-brake and all and it's held up for many years. Buddys 3800lb truck cracked an OEM case his second time out with around 700whp.

Didn't the Nitrous Express diesel powered Mustang run a 4L80E? I think he was running high 8's and just over 200mph at the Texas Mile. It was around the 1000hp mark but quite a bit higher torque than the LS due to limited rpm.

He might have been. Trouble is that all of these high powered 80E guys are building/gearing these trans to do one thing. I need it to do 3 things, That's why it wont work for me.

Since your motors out you could also de-stroke and build it to rev... Prob cost around the same.

Ok, No going back i made my decition and im sticking to it. I ordered a GV OD unit and that will be the end of that. If i have to cut up the tunnel, So be it.

Gentlemen I am on the look out for a Glide that will hold this power. If you have one in the garage or know a stand up guy let me know! I would like to save some cash after buying that unit.

I like how you go about doing ****.

I've never even heard of the glide with OD. Sounds like a bad *** option, really looking forward to seeing your results..

BTW, you still liking your lift? I've about set back enough money to order one. Really looking at the MaxJax since my ceilings are just 8' I could get a full size one and just stick the post through the floor trusses but it seems a little ridiculous to do that.

Yeah that's pretty amazing setup. Never thought of a shorty glide with a GV. That's an awesome setup for our cars. That will fit perfect, my th400 has more than enough space around it, just not past it.

Just to be clear I did not order the shorty adapter as it would have driven the cost of the whole setup nearly $500 in total. I will be struggling to find room but am ok with a little reconstructive surgery in the tunnel.

If running a glide wasn't sub optimal for my car, I'd probably seriously look into that setup...

I'm glad you enjoy it, my wife hates it! the car should be a beast for sure.

The lift is BADASS! Every time I use it I thank god I bought it. The longer you wait the more you'll regret it later.

Curious why you choose the T400 over the glide?

Another cool setup I saw recently used a 2.50 gear and a th400. Basically using a TH400 as a 2 speed giving similar starting line ratios to a glide. Then used 3rd for OD.

Damn that sounds way cheaper than what I did. What was the OD gearing set at?

You'd need a 9" rear end swap to pull it off though. (2.50 is the rear end gear)

Uses the factory TH400 ratios. 2.48 1st and 1.48 2nd. 3rd is 1:1.

2.48 x 2.50 = 6.2 starting line ratio.

Similar to a glide with a 3.50 rear gear.

1.76 x 3.50 = 6.16.

2nd would net you around 156 at 7k.

With a 1:1 final gear and 2.50 rear you could cruise 50 at 1500 rpm... and hit 230 at 7000! Assuming it held up.

(Not factoring in slippage)

Very clever! While we are on the subject of the Glide, Does anyone know if the Shorty version is weaker or stronger than the long tail version? The Salesman told me i have until Friday to make up my mind if i want a shorty.. If i went that route it would make the Glide right at 30.5" long.. My T56 was 30.5ish long.. That in it slef is VERY appealing to me as i could save some doe on drivetrain.
