I run NPT(1/8" IIRC) to -6 AN for my glides to the cooler typically. I have come across more than one cracked housing from over tightening.

I look forward to seeing the results from the steep gear and using OD gears.

Thanks,

I opted for an aftermarket case so hopefully i don't run into that problem.

So whats the ruff total damage shipped to your door on the GV unit and glide combo together? Was the install procedure pretty straight forward? Just bolted on?

Need to know a nice round figure so I know which organ I have to sell to pick up something similar.

Well the install hasn't happened yet.. However it is only .400" shorter than the T56 so i should be able to use my same Trans mount location. With that said there doesn't seem to be a mount location on the GV unit so it looks like i will be welding some mounting tabs on it.

As far as dollars go.. I hope your sitting down.. Glide was $4100 shipped with the converter. The GV was $3050 shipped. The true cost for me is almost 8k due to the fact that i still needed to buy a shifter/cooler/flexplate..

Its the $4100 glide that has my mind blown. Figure you were gonna pay for the trans either way, so 3k instead of a solid rear end swap/fab ins't too bad IMO. I had $2600 in my 8.8 RX-7 swap kit. And that was installing it myself. Theres a shorty glide FS for $1200 local...has me thinking!

Yeah im not terribly stressed about it. In the end it was a long term economical decision. The manual would have continued to destroy driveline parts and it would never be as fast. I justified the purchase with hopes of faster times/less breakage. Im trying my hardest to avoid a SRA swap. I would like to continue competing in "stock suspension" location classes. I already feel like a sell out with the auto much less going SRA.. There is still some cool factor that the car is still IRS. The big question is how long can i stay off the trans break.

Those people haven't done the math. A TOP of the line T56 super magnum will run you like 5500-6K. That aint **** compared to what some of these Autos get up to.

So top being a 1:1 and then 0.78...overall leaves it just shy of a normal T56 5th gear ?

Pricey is right! But in my eyes there isnt a better option so im ok with dropping the cash this time. I don't think that pic made it into the magazine, I just found it on there website.

Pretty much, just rated for big power. Typical glide spread would be 1.76 - 1.37 - 1.0 - .78.

Its more like a 3 grand glide (minus converter) which is fair for an aftermarket case with a good gear set and aftermarket pump

I have maybe 1500 into my glide with a good gear set. But I have a stock housing and pump

Better add in the cost of the clutch for a t56

A t56 of any build quality is like glass compared to a glide with a couple parts

Yup, I think the case was like $900. Still thought this is a relatively low level Glide. Ive seen them as high as 12K for some crazy ****. FTI rates it for 1200WHP but ive seen similar style glides hold 1500+

Even at $6500 for a clutch and a brand new top of the line GM manual trans.. that is a drop in the bucket compared to some autos ive seen. Also your right no T56 can hold a candle to a Glide.. all reasons why i made the decision to switch.

The car will be much faster with the glide and the trans is 10x stronger then the best stick trans.... Definitely the way I would go, especially on a light car. The GV was a nice touch. Interesting combo for sure. If you could put a Fab 9 rear end in it, the drivetrain would be bullet proof.

Car is gonna be nasty.

I hope so. I just switched to solid motor mounts/aluminum/teflon fuel lines (C16) and some solid motor mounts. I have high hopes for this car.
