Default OBX Shorty headers for Turbo setup

http://www.ebay.com/itm/OBX-Shorty-H...:WNARL:US:1123

Has anyone thought about doing this in place of the truck manifolds? looks like you could just cut off the flange and weld a short piece of pipe on it and then the v-band... and they possibly might clear the A/C, or work as an up and forward design?

be interested to see a set, looks like it would work out good to cut them off right were the pipes merge like you were saying and maybe just set a good angle to clear everything.. im debating on building a set of headers for my thirdgen but if i can find something like this it would likely turn out a whole lot better, because i dont have a tig welder lol

Is that the up and forward headers?? Any chance you could
Send a measurement from one collector to the other ??? Curious to see if that would fit between my frame rails.

Thanks kerry

Yes I have, but they don't fit unless I cut the motor mount stands!

Car was originally a motor plate car before I got it, so I had to make my own stand's! I could fit them like Baggin's! However I love them up and forward and it saves me from having to cut/redo the mounts!

I seen those on ebay . That's a awesome price almost worth just trying them for that price. I can't buy the stainless bends and collector and get the flanges water jetted out for that price. I'm seriously thinking about snatching some up myself .

Unless you just want them because they are shiny, I see no point? The pipe diameter is too large for 99% of peoples needs. Some of the manifolds pictured in these threads are insane! 3" merge collectors? With what looks like 1 7/8 primaries? If your not looking to make 3000+hp it's just not necessary. Stock truck manifolds have made 1400+whp. A 2.5" hotside is capable of 2400+. A 2" hotside will support 1000hp.

All large tubing aftermarket manifolds will do is do is slow velocity and spool speed. It is also an inferior material to the OEM manifolds. It will not hold heat as well and it cracks easier. Not saying it will, but every set of china manifolds (OBX included) I've dealt with has cracked eventually.

IMO run the factory manifolds the way they were designed to be run (rear facing). Then plumb your hotside piping where it needs to go. You will end up with a nice OEM looking setup with easy plug wire access etc... No need to re-invent the wheel.

Forcefed, just to clear some thing's up they are 1 3/4.....

I also have a set of stock manifolds as well if I ever need them! Turbo will be braced properly so there wont be much weight hanging on them! Also plug access is a breeze!

Gotcha, 1 3/4 is still to large for most LS platforms. And a 3" collector/hotside is overkill. Not saying it won't work. If they are just easier than OEM manifolds for packaging etc and your building a street toy where performance isn't the main factor then go for it. I'm just saying from a performance aspect a set of OEM manifolds will work better and be stronger. The plug comment was more directed towards flipping the OEM manifolds forward facing. Everything fits much nicer if you leave it the way it was meant to be run is all.

plug access is perfect when truck manifolds are flipped as well. and i do wish they would make a 1 5/8" primary/2 1/2" collector version. i'll have 408 cubes and would do a 3-2 1/2" reducer if i went with them but i was looking to try them for a bit of bling factor if you will, and weight reduction as a bonus.

My flipped manifold wasn't' exactly impossible to get the plugs but I wouldn't call ti easy. I could not use the OEM coil mounting or plug wires either. Had to snake wires all over, move coils up, make heat shields etc. It just doesn't make for as clean/neat of an install IMO.

Pass side fit great in comparison...

yea i meant d/s on the p/s and vise-versa, not flipped upside down. sorry for the confusion. when they're down & forward but on the opposite side, the spark plug changes are as simple as can be. hard to see but every plug was easily accessible as i'm sure you know.
