Default 317s vs ls3 heads on 370 procharged

I've did some research but didn't see much comparing the 2 with boost. Im building a somewhat budget build 370 with a D1 procharger spinning at its max. I'm looking to maximize the bottom end as most cost effective as possible. I already have a set or 317 heads but they will need cleaned, checked and a valve job at minimum. ive also seen ported ls3 heads sold by vendors for roughly $1300ish. Either way i have to buy a cam to compliment either and the valve train to match the setup. I know the 317s are proven heads but would spending $1300 on ls3 heads really gain me much on a boosted setup over the 317s?

The LS3 style ports flow much better than the 317 ports do, there is no comparison. Bob

I have never done a comparison but like they said the LSA should make more power. Take a look at how much more they flow and now think about how much more they will move at 15 pounds.

The LS3 intake does a good job, but more power can be found with an aftermarket intake. I guess it would depend on if you already have an LS3 intake and what your goals are. Bob

OP. From a cost/performance stand point if you already have the 317s use them. If you have an extra $1300 to blow on heads then send the 317's to AI and have them ported.

I found a set of brand new LS3 heads on here in the classifieds section for $675 shipped. LS3 heads in stock form should still outflow a set of ported 317's. And The LS3 intake manifold also moves a ton of air in stock form and they're cheap.

I tried finding the thread with no luck.

From what I gather, lsa heads are the best and strongest but ls3 heads will do fine for my power level (under 900) and regardless will be a step up from my 317s. Sound about right?

Yes indeed, a huge step up from the 317 heads in cfm. Bob

My buddy makes 1190whp on BONE STOCK ls3 heads & intake with a precision 8891 and standard size head studs. All I'm the tune and packing the right cam to make sure your cylinder pressure is where it needs to be. If you can find LSA heads for a good deal go that way, I would buy either one however

Those are impressive numbers! At what boost pressure is that 1190 achieved? You are correct that the right can and tune is key!
