Default ZL1 Supercharger Issue

A friend of mine has a '13 ZL1 with the Slayer package from LMR. The car has less than 1k miles on it and only about 100 since the mods. He now has the rattle coming from the s/c that GM now has a recall for, but he can't get it replaced due to the mods. Does anyone know if the stock s/c can be fixed? I think it's just bad bearings causing the issue so it seems like an easy fix but I can't find any info on it. I appreciate any help.

Also, does Whipple offer a s/c for the ZL1's? that may be his best alternative if he can't fix the stock one.

Just call the dealership and ask what the recall is about then fix the issue your self. Or ya upgrade the SC

We know what the issue is about, that's the point of this thread. I'm wondering if a simple bearing replacement will fix it, or if the issue is deeper than that. This guy refuses to do any of the work himself and won't let me work on it so he would need to have someone do the work. At that point he may as well go with a bigger supercharger. He said LMR told him that Whipple doesn't make a s/c for the ZL1's yet, which I find hard to believe. They quoted him on an F1A, but the price was higher than he wants to spend right now.

Again if you know what the issue is and are wondering if there is a deeper issue call the dealership and ask

Does he have a solid isolator? The stock ones can sound horrible.

Not sure, I'll ask him. He spoke with LMR and the dealership and both say it sounds like the recall issue.

At this point with him not wanting to do any of the work I think it's more cost effective for him to just go with a different s/c. Does anyone have any experience or info on LSA's with Whipples? It looks like their 2.9 would be a nice replacement, is there any reason why the LS3 kit wouldn't fit on the LSA?

This will be the fix or buy a new blower for $1,500-$2000. Ill buy his current blower if he decides to sell it and just do the solid isolator and run it,

I'd stick with the LSA 1.9L. I've heard nothing but headaches with whipples on LSAs and haven't seen any other aftermarket positive displacement blower beat the stock 1.9L once it's ported and pullied.

This! Nothing like throwing thousands of dollars at a problem that could be fixed for a couple hundred.

Here's an option if the repair is stupid expensive and you want a bigger blower...http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346187. You get a 2.3L TVS blower in place of your 1.9L. It should have a little higher upside if that matters to you.

If its a recall versus a warranty issue, why would the mods matter? If that's what the dealership said, I would call around to other ones before spending any money on it.

Ive done a Maggie heartbeat on an lsa. Wasnt bad too install and looked good. But the stock blower is a nice unit.

The old stock couplers are noisy and eat into the snout shaft. If the snout wasn't installed correctly it can cause issues with bearings and or the coupler.
