Default What are my options for my AC box? (turbo build)

I've removed my AC but I wanna retain my heat and at least be able to blow a cool breeze in cooler weather, inside the car, or turn heated defroster on or somethin.. But I need to get the air portion of the box out of the engine bay. I painted all around it, as some may have seen in my build thread..

I really didn't wanna pull the dash.. Like, REALLY don't wanna pull the dash. So what are my options?

You're pulling the dash. LOL

It isn't that bad.

You cut off the part going into the bay and then modify with some thin sheet metal to block it back off.

Seal it back up.

Reinstall.

There is a write up I used on here.. Think chrs1313 did it. Great info and good pics. I was a bit intimidated going in, turned out perfect.

Don't pull the dash and you will be saying that.

It isn't that bad.

I've done it from the engine bay with the engine still in place. It's dusty but can be done with a dremel tool.

Depending on how you choose to do it, here's one:

You can do it both ways. I chose the hard way to avoid the mess of cutting the fiberglass box in the car. Here's some pics that made me throw up in my mouth a little...

Wow Conan, that's awesome (although a little scary)! I always wondered how much it would take to do it from the inside. Those pics tell a hell of a story. I also wondered how the HVAC ducts snaked thru behind the dash. Thanks especially for that 2nd pic.

This was the worst part of my build. The dashboard engineers really know how to pack 10#'s of **** in a 5# bag. I'm glad I did it, turned out great, heat controls work just like stock. Passenger side spark plugs are easier to change than the drive side now, but i wouldn't want to do it again any time soon.

I see so many of these boxes getting cut up, between that and the f-bodies that get crushed, I have the feeling entact hvac boxes are gonna run a premium in another 10 or 20 years lol.

Get out your dremel and start cutting from under the hood. Get as much done under there as you can, and if you get stuck and need to remove the dash then do it after you've exhausted all underhood possibilities.

That's how I did mine. Start with a small hole and just keep cutting it bigger. The only thing in the box section extending into the engine bay is the evap coil for the ac and you're demo'ing that anyway. Trim it back flush, and trim/touchup the air path a bit and you're 99% done.
