OK, so I'm having second thoughts...
I thought I wanted to build a 408" nitrous motor, but was wondering could I do a D1SC or turbo set up cheaper for my car with its current SBE/mods/set-up.

I have accumulated some of the parts for the 408 (heads, intake, bare block, little stuff) but have at least $4,000 more to go on machine work, forged rotator, cam, etc.

Car in sig = 17k mile SBE, BTR Stage III cam, ported 241's (let me know if you need more) I have some 317 heads if that helps.

Yes? No? Cost estimate?

Thanks for any input!

I find it hard to believe that I can go turbo for less (as mentioned by sponsor). It would be lighter than the iron block though...

I would go F series over D1 for a 408. I did the nitrous thing before I'm way happier with boost.

You missed my point...FI for the existing SBE 346 in car now OR continue on, spending 4-5K more to complete the 408.

Looks like to did. I'd keep the 346 whether for FI or N2O. Don't need a millions cubes for boost. The D1 will like it better too.

I probably have $2,000+ of 408 stuff accumulated that I could sell to put toward which ever boost route I choose. And I have some 317 heads already!
Keep it coming guys... single turbo or Procharger...$$ vs. $$

Well prochargers take power to make power unlike turbos.. turbo cars feel faster, turbos sound better, if you size it properly even the slight lag of even a small turbo will let you hook and not blow the tires off the car like a procharger will.. now are you looking for fun on the street or track ?? i mean either option is awesome, my dad has a novi 9.0 sec 1/4 93 cobra and i have my turbo car of course and having ridden and driven in both.. theyre both fun as hell but the turbo is more fun.. its alllll personal opinion because both will exceed your expectations i feel

My entire turbo setup cost me less than a Procharger unit alone would cost.

When you know how to weld, a $1500 hotside suddenly becomes $250. Throw in a $650 Borg Warner, a $200 ebay intercooler/coldside, and a $100 ebay Wastegate/BOV, plus misc fittings and feed/drain lines from ebay or Squeeze Performance, and your entire turbo hardware is done for $1300 or so.

I am a boost man myself i like most is yes the setup costs of a nitrous motor is less but you have to keep the bottle full and they run out. with a turbo or blower motor there is never the chance of having that extra power just die on you. and especially with a turbo the power is more or less only there when you need it. stay out of boost on a gentle cruse or crank the controller to the moon for an extra 300 horse and if something ever happens with the turbo simply pull it out and plug the oil lines and you can still load it onto the trailer. and you can make way more power with an ls on turbo then you can with nitrous IMO. but I'm bias as well.

Thanks...As a newb, I just don't know how much rwhp can be achieved on SBE (pistons, rings, rod bolts, non-studded heads, etc.). I know I'll have to change the heads and cam, but I insist on not having to cut on the car or loose A/C, radiator position, etc.
Keep on convincing me guys

I had a icon twin turbo car and now a procharger car. This was coming from back in the day but the turbo car was great ran open headers everywhere since turbos help quiet the exhaust. Tuning was a nightmare but again this was when we only had ls1 edit lol.

Have a procharger car now. Installed the kit myself in the driveway and was done.

Sound...turbo people would say it sounded like a jet going down the road when I'd open it up lol. Procharger get that noticing whine which I love and you step on it sounds like a untamed beast.

Turbo will make more power and boost is there almost instantly. Procharged you make max boost at max rpm but it's more forgiving on parts and tires lol.

Can't go wrong either way to be honest.

Personally I'd build the 408 and get a diy turbo and s/c kit if you want to keep costs down.
