*Vs 77/83* turbo g body
Figured I'd start a thread on my project since I'm fairly close to firing it up. Vehicle is a 81 Pontiac grand prix that I've owned for 12 years. Naturally as a gearhead the car has seen different powertrains during my ownership, ranging from the typical sbc strockers to 406s and all that fun stuff. A few years ago I started messing with the LS platform and haven't looked back. The car had a Eps cammed 6.0 with a Vic Jr 750dp th350 3600 stall that ran very hard but I decided to go turbo so I sold the engine and trans. My buddy gave me a 5.3 with 200k on it and we had a turbo cam laying around the shop so let it begin!

The engine my boy have me had 200k on it and I was intially going to run it as it was but after tearing it down I didnt feel comfortable with that idea so... Off to the machine shop it went. Just a basic hotank, hone, new rings and cam bearings. Just a small investment considering I didn't pay for the engine and I sold my setup. No biggie.

So that's where I'm at in the build. Kyle at KB racing is fabbing me a log manifold. Hopefully it arrives sometime this week. Need to get a converter so I can put the trans in and I need to order injectors. Thinking I may go e85 since we have a station a few streets down. This is not my first ls build but it is my first turbo build so any input is welcomed and appreciated.

Overall goal with the car is to be a fun street car. Would like to make 550-600 rwhp but I'm not too hung up on numbers. I rather have a car that runs well and and is mostly fun to drive

Thanks force!! Yeah I agree the grand prixs looks pretty mean. I really want the aerocoupe vesion but theyre super rare. As far as the gt45, I already has it so I figured I'll try. I'm not stuck on it though. I'll run something else of it will reach my goals easier. Any suggestions??

What are your goals? Another GT45 would be the cheap and twins are always cool!
I'm sold on the 88/83 and 77/83 VS racing turbos that came out recently. Basically $500 shipped. Never ran one myself, but they seem like the new hot ticket with "cheap" china stuff. Guys making great power with them assuming they hold up.
If you wanted to go brand name it's hard to beat the S400 based stuff.

Goals are to make in the neiborhood of 600wrhp. If it makes more, that's always a plus!! It's a street car so I'd like it to light Off fairly quickly. I'm all ears as far as the turbo suggestions. Has to be a single though since my log is already being fabbed

The car is fun but I have snuck up on this power level over a year so it doesn't seem that impressive to me. I am already wanting a bigger turbo and more power.

I didn't see what cam you were going with but you should be able to make your goal. I did just over 600 WHP on 17 psi with a similar setup and an extremely loose converter.

Well... I decided to run a different turbo after talking to a few people about my setup. Just ordered a VS racing 77/83 that should exceed what my initial power goals were. Well that's the plan anyway lol..

While I'm waiting on parts I decided to send my front and rear seats to get re upholstered. I also decided to insulate the inside with some peel and seal.
This stuff is supposed to be pretty good for the money. Each roll was about $18 so i picked up 4 rolls
Carpet removed
I only used three rolls so far and it covered alot. I have one roll left so i'll do the door skins and roof next chance I get.

Nah no funny smells yet lol.. We did a LS swap on another g body that had this stuff installed when the car came to us and it seemed to work really well. There's some internet debates about peel and seal vs dynomat as well so people are using it!!

Yeah they will stay on for normal street cruising but they will come off for track runs and all. And believe me... I've embarrased many on these wheels with the last setup.
