Default Boosted 4.8

I have a 4.8 wanting to do a forged rotating assembly. What options do I have? What's an ideal compression ratio? What is better blow through or efi?

I've read that I need to gap rings bigger? Or do I just let it ride?

Put some valve springs, maybe a cam, slap a turbo on it and let it eat.

I would talk to Lil' John and tell him what you want so he can recommend the right cam. You want a cam that will compliment the turbo via exhaust events. Going to the biggest may not be the best.

Way too much cam for a 600hp 4.8.

Just boost the stock engine. Throw an On3 7665 on it. It'll spool quick and make good power. From there you can do upgrades as you wish. No point in going all-in on your first build. There will be problems. Dont spend more money than you have to the first time around.

The motor probably has enough miles on it to loosen up the rings, so you don't have to worry about that. New valve springs and injectors are all you really need. The stock intake, stock cam, and stock rotating assembly will all be fine for those power levels. Throw a cheap turbo on there and drive it.

You're still going to get the same answer. Turbo the stock engine....

I wouldn't touch the rotating assembly. I would put a cam/springs in it and go. I had a 220k 4.8 in my car all last year and it never missed a beat. 14-20 lbs of boost for 2500 hard miles and it was still running fine when I pulled it out a few months ago.

I'd hone it and throw some fresh rings abd bearings in it.

250k is alot of miles and I'd be surprised if it has good cyl sealing

putting a turbo on a worn out engine isn't a good idea.

If I was going to boost a stocker, I'd look for a bit fresher short block than that.

Denmah just pulled apart a quarter million mile motor where the rings were damn near new and the other motor he had had bearings with as many miles on them that looked like they were put in yesterday.

There's no reason for any of this work. If anything, valve seals, springs and a cam and slap it back together. There's been too many builds identical to what the OP is trying to achieve that have succeeded with less. I don't think I've read a single JY turbo build that was done where someone had to yank the motor because it was worn out.

+1, I changed the springs added an ls6 cam and head studs. That's it 4K street miles at 15psi sometimes 17. I run it hard through the first 4 everytime I drive it. Mine is 5.3 but same ****
