on3 70 vs 76mm turbo for 4.8l ls9 cam need instant spool
Ok I currently have a 4.8l lm4 in a 00 wrangler hooked up to the stock jeep nv3550 5 speed
Engine currently has a radix m112 with the 6.0 pulley on it (12psi or so on the 4.8)
Looking to remove the blower and go to a turbo
Engine has an ls9 cam (not changing it)
Trying to do the sway fairly cheap so looking at on3 turbos
(I have built a turbo ls before so I understand that even a cheap setup isn't "cheap")
Rpm range is 2-6k
Would like full boost by 2500 Rpm (zero turbo lag)
I am fine with less hp overall (don't need 600 rwhp)
I'm thinking 450 rwhp and instant boost would be much more fun as this thing is street use only max boost ~12psi
I was thinking an on3 70mm or a low AR 76mm. Any thoughts?

I dont think your get "instant spool" on either of those turbos. Ive done a 4.8 with truck heads and then 317's with the 76 and 70. The lower compression 317 heads were pretty laggy but even with the stock heads the 70 and 76 took a second to spool.
That 112 has to be peppy tho!

Yes the m112 is instant but very inefficient
I bet I am losing 80+hp spinning the heat pump m112
I am probably gonna sell the jeep later this year but have the itch to turbo something and i have enough left over pieces from the last turbo setup that I can probably switch it over to a on3 70mm for less than the m112 setup is worth used
I think it should be fairly drivable with the 70mm and the 5 speed

If you want instant, use a supercharger, if your current unit isnt big enough, fit a larger one.
You will never get instant with any turbo setup in the same way you will with a blower.
You may be able to get very fast and responsive with a small turbo setup....but it will never be blower instant no matter what anyone tells you.

I think with a small enough turbo you could have immediate spool. My fusion has full boost at part throttle before 2k rpms. You will lose power up top as a result but immediate spool can happen.
A cam swap will also make that better. Not sure why you don't want to change it.

And given he already has a blower...fitted and working, and doesnt care if he makes 450 or 600hp...as long as power is instant. It really does seem insane to want to change to a turbo setup.
