Default EBay/ off-brand turbos

What gives eBay/off-brand turbos such bad reputations?

Can you send the turbos anywhere to be built or upgraded to hold more power?

The bad reputation comes from ~10 years ago when they were first getting into the turbo market, and had some trouble getting them right.

Now, most people have more luck with the ebay turbos than they do from places like Precision.

Yep. "eBay turbos" being total garbage is most a thing of the past at this point. Of course people still have issues here and there but overall I wouldn't sweat it.

People have had great luck with them.

And lets be honest, VS racing, On3, CX racing ect are all ebay turbos with just a little mark up.

That mark up is probably customer service.

I can personally vouch for the latter part of this comment.

Yes and no. The guy that runs VS Racing is very deep into the LS world, some of us have contact with him on a regular basis.

On3 charges markup because they have their name on the compressor housing.

CX Racing has crap for customer service, but their name is huge now and they're one of the main driver's behind over-seas production.

So one guy out of the bunch answers a phone. In large part the mark up associated with China **** is the same as any other commodity and should be viewed as such.
